Where Can A 91 GPA Student From St. Alban's Go?

Anonymous
So, my son has a 91 GPA at St. Alban's with a 1540 SAT score. Are Ivies or other top 20 schools realistic for him to aim for?

In your experience, where do kids with these grades from St. Alban's end up?

Anywhere he wants. But no one here can help you.

He is certainly in the range that applies to ivies and the equivalent but at that level it is very random. Everyone applying will have great scores and grades. Everyone needs safeties.

St Alban's College Counselling office should be able to answer. They have data on past acceptances.

This spring, the counseling office will give you info on where kids with that gpa were admitted. That test score is pretty on par with other STA kids in that GPA range. They pretty much all have 35/1540+.

Very broadly (and assuming AP classes and at least AP AB calc), Chicago is likely an option ED but I would focus on schools in the 15 - 40 range unless also has some major awards, athletic recruitment etc.

Should have great options!

^ Agree with above, would add T15 may be a reasonable shot if the course rigor is there and he has some real ECs with leadership or is a prefect, etc.

STA College Counseling is good, and they will even encourage you to reach if you aim too low. I will say that depending on your class, your DS may be encouraged to consider an Ivy or other top school with fewer boys applying ED (since the Office has a better sense of legacies, scores, etc.) That is helpful to set expectations.

This is a question for the college counselor at St. Alban's. That's what you pay the big tuition dollars for.

Why Chicago? Because they take a high percent of ED?

The college counseling office will share with you some data. My recollection is that those scores are within the range of Ivy T20 admits but there is a lot of variation and some with really high SATs are turned down as well (yield protection perhaps).

Is he a legacy at any Ivies?
