Let’s update gradebook

Teachers don't seem to think it impacts students.

And yet they want parents to be involved, but it's hard to be involved when you can't go and check the grades to see if there's a problem. And they don't want you emailing them to ask how your child is doing in their class (that's being a helicopter parent). You are supposed to let the child be autonomous and in charge, until they determine at the end of the quarter that the child is struggling and they send you the email saying there's going to be a problem. And then you ask, this didn't happen overnight, why couldn't this have been brought up earlier so we could have done something to address it? Crickets on that question.

Which comes first? The chicken or the egg?

And yes, I know a teacher is going to weigh in and tell me what an ungrateful brat I am.

This is a great summary of the problem. My two kids went through all their school years in FCPS. It was a constant drum beat of “support your student” but I can think of only two teachers who provided the information necessary to do so proactively.

During virtual instruction. by Monday evening, I had lesson plans and activities for the entire week. I was current on my grading,I had met with students individually or in small groups, and communicated with parents. I know a lot of parents complained about virtual learning, but that was actually the year that I felt the most successful and productive as a teacher. And I had taught for a dozen years prior to that year.

They updated the grade book and they have missing assignments…

This phenomenon is just more fuel to the "teachers are lazy" fire. It's not hard. As a teacher, it does not take that long to upgrade book. Right after I grade I go right to the grade book. I certainty dont save it until a better time. It's part of my job and I just do it.

Then your kid needs to complete all the work. Seems pretty simple.

My kid (10th grade) has no grades at all in his Driver's Ed/PE class for this quarter. Last graded assignment was 1/25.

So there are no grades for all of second quarter and third quarter?

March 1 is only two weeks ago. Perhaps the teachers are in the middle of grading essays or major projects. That takes time. Cut them some slack.

February 17 is bad, though. That's a month ago.
