Fairfax County under 600k

The available properties in good school districts are so flawed as to be unsellable in the future. The anticipated price decrease has not materialized as we are in a deflationary spiral due to low inventory.

No one owes me a place to live. I just don't like my choices.

Keyword: wants. A want isn’t a need. Either move to where you can afford, or find ways to make more money. Nobody feels sorry for you. When I worked in McLean, I bought a house in Ashburn (because it was all I could afford at the time) and I did the commute and I lived. I didn’t cry about it online.

DP PP doesn’t need your advice. Her husband is the one who doesn’t want to live in Ashburn. It’s really not hard to muster some compassion for a married couple struggling to compromise in this HCOL area.

So don't live in Ashburn? There is plenty of property available relatively close to Tysons for under $600K that would suit a family. I just looked.

No, I don't care to. Go to Redfin and search in a ten mile radius of Tysons.

10 miles is not “relatively close” given the traffic in NoVa.

A nice family home in a decent school district for 600k within 15 minutes (2 miles?) of Tyson's is never happening. I just saved you a ton of time.

I'm LOLing at the poor DH who thinks he deserves a 15 minute commute to Tyson's.

With traffic, it has taken me more than 15 minutes to get from Tysons 1 to Tysons 2.

NP here. I think half the purpose of DCUM is to cry about things online anonymously. Nobody cares how you feel either.

lol! 15 minutes to Tyson's is like, Falls Church City. Or the edge of North Arlington. Ain't happening without at least a million dollars, for a shoebox.

Commuting to Tyson is hell. We live less than 10 miles away but it used to take my husband closer to 45 min. Townhouses our community are about 700 and the school district is below average.

PP didn’t say he thought he deserved it. But there are plenty of small houses in awful condition nearby going for more than a million and that’s absurd. He has every reason to be disgruntled with that. Maybe he’s been commuting for 25 years already and regrets spending so much of his life in the car. It’s stupid that a cheaply made 60s ranch in original condition costs too much for a full time professional.

We are also looking in that area and the new condos are asking Manhattan prices. Stupid.Tyson’s is not Manhattan . But foreign money will buy them up as fourth homes, party pads for their kids, and business expenses, inflating housing costs for those of us who actually live and work here.

Stop blaming people for wanting quality of life where they live and work and notice there’s a problem in the housing market.

It's a radius. Search within it. Stop complaining and find a property.
