Adorable house, great neighborhood, love what they did with the attic. Way too small for a mom with kids. Amazing for a singleton, DINKs, or a single parent with a child who visits. |
For a 1,200 SF 2 bed 1 bath, op might be better off just buying a newer condo rather than a fixer upper |
West Springfield (not Springfield Mall area) or Burke townhouses unless you want a real rough fixer upper. Stay away from Annandale, Alexandria and Fairfax. |
That's what sub 600k gets you in a good ES district in Fairfax. The neighborhood is full of families living in those homes |
Op wants Three OR FOUR bedrooms! Not two! |
Is waynewood really worth it for “the schools?” Seems like a great elementary school but a middling middle and high school? |
SFH is doable if you're willing to do some renovations: https://www.redfin.com/VA/Fairfax/4504-Andes-Dr-22030/home/9614314

It's doubtful anyone *needs* 4 bedrooms. Double the kids up. Goodness, now many kids do you have? We have a dining room. No reason we couldn't put a bed in there instead of a dining set and it becomes a bedroom. Think creatively. Use the basement. Op, likely your best bet will be a townhouse in the HS pyramid of: West Springfield .. then maybe Robinson, Lake Braddock, Fairfax City, Woodson. Commute via the VRE. |
This property in Hayfield sending area is smaller -3 bed, 1.5 baths but went under contract much quicker than larger and renovated properties with more baths zoned for some other schools. Possibly no dishwasher, and old knotty pine cabinets. 1/2 bath only n main level which has 1 of the 3 bedrooms. https://www.redfin.com/VA/Alexandria/6556-Windham-Ave-22315/home/9785070 |
Complete and total lie. |
Burke has some nice townhouse neighborhoods. This sold in September but is in your price range - https://www.redfin.com/VA/Fairfax/5428-Helm-Ct-22032/home/9728181
Robinson and Lake Braddock pyramids are both very good (although the secondary schools are huge). |
If you’re open to a townhouse and some light reno (new carpeting, etc) this seems like a good buy - Shrevewood, Kilmer, Marshall schools. Community comes with a pool as part of HOA dues. Priced a bit above $600k but has been sitting. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2853-Coors-Park-Ct-Falls-Church-VA-22043/51809724_zpid/ |
Disagree. Not everyone needs 1000 sqf/person. That house is plenty big for a couple with 2 or 3 children. |
Self fulfilling downward spiral. People tell people looking for good schools not to buy in a certain area so things get worse at the avoided schools. There is nothing inherently wrong with the schools you mentioned, but they do have disadvantaged students. |
