My wife likes lifetime fitness, but it's costly... We have two gym memberships

Get rid of YMCA. Keep gym until kids are in school more. Then Lifetime has to go. At that point she will have a lot more time. In summer find another pool option. Then your wife needs to get a job. I did this exact thing. LIfetime felt expensive but also essential for my mental health when the kids were small.

It's cheaper to keep both. This is op. We pay $103 for a FAMILY membership and $289 for my wife and both kids to be members at the new lifetime fitness closer to our house. If I wanted to be a member at lifetime, I would need to pay an extra $189 and drive 30 minutes each way. My wife does being me as a guest every two months for free. She did point out that she brings them twice a week when I am not working, so I have the house to myself. I didn't consider the gymnastics and sports classes that are included in the membership. Both of our kids go to gymnastics twice a week. Another thing I didn't know was the kid's academy has an outdoor play area so they do get to be outdoors when it's nice. They can come and go outside. We will freeze the membership for a month or two, so my wife can figure out if she can handle the driving to and from.

This is definitely not true OP. I added my husband to my lifetime membership for $60 last month. No special or anything.

You must be a different club than the king of Prussia. It's $189 per adult. We aren't local anymore.

Op I checked and it's $80 to add me. Either way I'm not interested as it's too far away and gets crowded at night. The first adult is $189. The kids are each $50.

Yeah, I was going to chime in on this. We have the highest level membership at Lifetime for a family of 4 and pay $279. It allows us to go to any club in the country at no additional cost. I took myself off for a few months because of some drams with an instructor, it the cost went down to $210 a month. Our primary club is the Gainesville club.

You are going to pause her membership??? I hope she gets full custody and a ton of child support. You are an awful person.

Maybe guilt her over that?

What's wrong with that?

If she doesn’t want to actively parent maybe she should get a full-time job

Oh, blow it out your ear.

Wrinkly and saggy?

Stop projecting, dear.

Childcare, steam room, hot tub, towel service are my reasons. I also belong to a closer cheap gym for when my DH can watch the kids and I can get in and out, but the experience is wildly different.

Planet Fitness is trash. You get what you pay for.

Then keep both. You want to keep YMCA for you. She wants Lifetime. Keep both or plan for a lot of fights. She doesn’t have the same income as you do and she is looking for a way fill her days and stay fit. Don’t do a the unthinkable and use her lack of money and job against her.

It’s cheaper than a divorce. Keep her membership if it makes her happy.
Anonymous
How much does she spend on extras there?
I think you’d get more sympathy OP if you show us your entire budget so we can see what percentage of your take home pay is devoted to this.
FYI I make more than you and my gym is $37 a month.
