Not Shaq in particular, but Kanye is (is his very clumsy way) trying to make a broader point than just Shaq. |
|
He thought marrying Kim Kardashian would make him one of the bros and was angry when it did not.
He wants to be a street thug, a minister, Gianni Versace, Donald Trump, and the next Elon Musk all at once. It’s strange |
You don't understand Kanye or his cultural relevance. |
What exactly is "one of the bros"? Kanye is the one that gave Kim real legitimacy, to the extent she has any; not the other way around. |
I definitely do understand it. In fact, I respect him for finally making kids pull their pants up. The sagging jeans trend in hip hop stopped once Kanye popularized skinny jeans and so called “hipster” fashions. He is who he is and that’s why people loved him at first. He never lied about his upbringing, tried to be a gangster, or ever rapped about killing or drug dealing. He never cared when people called him gay or metrosexual for his fashions and actually was one of the first rappers to stand up against homophobia and for marriage rights and this was back in 04. He always talked about how much he loved and admired his mother and father and how great they raised him which may seem like no big deal to most people but this was at the height of broken hip hop /ghetto culture (04/05-back when Cosby was throwing fits about it). I remember then Senator Obama openly bragging about listening to Kanye’s The College Dropout album. Kanye was truly the thing back then. I don’t know how he got off the rails but I imagine his mother dying getting plastic surgery didn’t help. He never seemed to truly recover from that and I understand. He was an only child and attached to the hip to his mom |
Kanye was being mocked for his sexuality and sensitivity for years. There even is a South Park episode called Kangay. He thought getting Kim would be a showcase of his masculinity . |
Then how can you call him an outsider weirdo? All of hip hop loves him, even after all of the crazy stuff he has done. He's too culturally relevant. People flock to buy his products and they still would. He's one of those people that is almost uncancellable. His catalogue is too etched into the cultural memory for many many people. He is truly a unique figure. |
He has been diagnosed bipolar, he just refuses medication. |
But he had Amber Rose before Kim, who became the hip hop it girl after he legitimized her. And now all of those "bros" revere Kanye. He was never one of them and never wanted to be. He just wanted his gifts and talents to be recognized and appreciated for what they were. His creativity and ambitions always far outstripped those guys. Guys like that never fit in. It's a lonely existence. |
| He's mentally ill. That's the dominating fact of who he is unfortunately. No point in analyzing anything else he does says or thinks. |
I think the "bipolar" or "sick" thing is a crutch people use to excuse Kanye's tirades because they do not really want to reckon with the things he is saying. It is a mechanism to divorce the love and respect they have for him as an artist and creator from the things coming out of his mouth, which people do not like. |
Feel free to think whatever you like. In reality, his actual medical diagnosis is bipolar disorder. |
You are misunderstanding my point. One can be bipolar and still make uncomfortable statements that people would rather not reckon with. This has been an issue with Kanye's statements in the black community for a while, b/c they still love him so much. Easier to dismiss those statements as sickness. |
