ACPS mask policy?

Well said and we agree. ACPS is hanging us out to dry.

Good news for you, and all the forever maskers "following the science". As of today, Alexandria is low! No masks required nor recommended anywhere, including in schools.

Looks like you'll have to take it up with the CDC.

Wonder when teachers will get to drop masks. The district specifically said that staff still has to mask until current standards from the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry are amended. Hope that doesn’t take long.

YOU. CAN. WEAR. A. MASK.

Hell, you can wear 6 masks.

Hell, get vaccinated and wear 6 masks. You'll be fine. Your kid will be fine. Time to take your health into your own hands.

Again, an antimasker showing complete ignorance about how masks work. Masks protect others and the wearer from spread. Thus, an unmasked child puts other students at risk even if masked.

Masks also protect you. Vaccination also helps you. Stop pretending like there are things you can't do to protect yourself.

And yes, after 2 years of this, I'm done masking as a healthy person who isn't going into the public when sick, so I guess I guess that makes me an "anti masker" in your small, binary world.

ACPS express last Friday said that teachers could opt out on 3/7. Wondering how many are doing so? My older son reported that half of his class wasn't wearing masks. He decided this week not to mask. Younger son is still in his mask and only one kid not. Noticed the principal and several teachers are maskless. This is an east end school.

We are on the West End.

Our kids say almost 100% masks on kids in all rooms they've been in or seen. Our son says that the only kids without masks are the ones you would expect. He also said that he has seen one teacher without a mask (sometimes? not all the time) but all the other teachers and adults are masked.

This makes us and our kids very happy.

FCCPS went optional for all staff and students last Friday. I’m a teacher and it’s a week later now. Over half of my students are not wearing masks. More than that take them off for part of the class. A lot of teachers dropped masks immediately and more seem to do so every day. I’m no longer wearing one in school.

West end school teacher here and totally not true. Masking is at 60% ish with kids and dropping every day. Also a good amount of teachers not masking at all. Mine is off a lot, but I have not full on embraced no masking. Also kids masking is not consistent day to day or at times during the day - always in flux.

Totally true. Hammond does it right. Every.Single.Time. We could not be happier with our kids' experiences there and the masking right now is one reason why.

Genuinely curious. What assumptions are you making here?

Really disappointed to see so many elementary teachers / admin still clinging to cloth masks. It would make more sense to me if they wore N95s, but to choose to mask and do so with cloth, makes little sense to me.

You're genuinely curious?

More like you know exactly what they are inferring and you know it's right but you think the threat of calling someone a racist will invalidate the factual claims.

Oh, okay, yeah, I definitely didn't know where you were going with your comment, so good thing I asked for clarification. And I'm confused? Is your son saying only POC aren't wearing masks? That hasn't been my experience.

DP but I have to chime in here. Do you work in public health? I do. Vax rates for AAs are a fraction of what they are for Caucasians and Asians. That's data. If you want to disagree with hard numbers, be my guest.

I find it incredibly interesting that so much of the left is simultaneously clinging to their masks like life rafts, constantly rallying for racial justice issues but completely defensive when its pointed out that AAs don't vax or mask even close to rates that whites do.

Why is that?

Is there data that Black people mask less than whites?

So you concede that they vax less, but want to claim that they mask equally? That's... odd. Especially given what we all witness on a daily basis.

This typifies what the left is all about. Instead of working to help the AA community, you deny the truths about their failings.

17:27, have you ever heard the saying that "when you assume, you make an a$$ out of you, not me"? Because that is precisely what you've done. You obviously don't know much about the demographics of some of the West End schools.

We are a multi-racial family. Our son is black. In his statement that you referenced and seem to be taking umbrage about, he is referring to the (few) white kids who go to Hammond. They were the first to unmask and they did so on the first day. Interestingly, after little public support, they have begun masking again and he says that towards the end of this week the (few) kids who were unmasked were those who were trouble/d or in trouble of all races. Other than that, most kids were masked as were the teachers (except that one). He also says that he and most of his classmates are pretty religious about using the hand sanitizer in each room, wiping down desks and chairs, and trying to be safe. He said teachers in all of his hand out wipes at the end of class to wipe down desks and chairs. The same with the cafeteria. Apparently the school even adjusted the lunch times by a small amount to add in a little extra time for more thorough cleaning.

I repeat that we're very happy with how the school is managing Covid and safety protocols. If our kids will be in school then we're happy they're in the school they're in because we feel that they are as safe as they can be made from the virus given the circumstances. If masks start coming off, we'll reevaluate. Until then, we hope things continue as they are.
