ACPS mask policy?

Anonymous
ACPS mom here who wants masks optional. With todays ruling and LCPS going maskless, what might be the case with APS/ACPS? Think it may happen by March?

My kid can't wait to get rid of her mask and I honestly can't say I blame her or will make her use. I'm sure we're in minority but with this optional policy unsure how we get in trouble for it.

I keep refreshing my email looking for this information. Looks like they don't have a school board meeting until March 10th, the February 17th meeting was canceled, so I'm assuming that this will be a decision made without the school board involved?

APS is announcing plans at the school board meeting tomorrow

Do teachers and staff still have to wear them?

Well, to be fair, OP put only ACPS in the thread title but put APS/ACPS in the first post.

I haven't seen the email yet, but looks like one was sent according to this article: https://www.alxnow.com/2022/02/17/alexandria-city-public-schools-announces-special-meeting-to-discuss-mask-requirements/

ACPS will be discussing masks on 2/24.

I hope not. I am dying to get rid of mine. Most teachers at my school are wearing useless cloth masks now anyhow.

Almost everyone (students and teachers) at our school is wearing the KN95s that were given out. I think most people are pretty comfortable with them. Student compliance is almost 100%; only a few students need prompts or reminders about putting their mask up over their nose. As a teacher I want masks to stay on. I will probably stop teaching if they come off before everyone is vaccinated. We are nowhere near 80% or more vaccinated.

ACPS really needs to do a data collection push for vaccination records. They really haven't given great information to parents on how to upload their vaccination cards, so i'm guessing the vaccination rates are way under counted.

I wish I could agree that there is an undercount. Anecdotal evidence from listening to the children in their general chatter doesn't bear that out though.

Yeah I think this will take teachers by surprise and cause quite an uproar. Then I think it will die down. The question is - will there be big outbreaks without the masks or will it be almost like before?

Are they giving out new disposable respirators to everyone every week?

You must work at Lyles Crouch or Naomi Brooks. This isn’t the case at my west end ACPS school. How do you feel about natural immunity? CDC even admits that it provides substantial protection. Many of those not vaccinated (and many vaccinated) will have had COVID. Also, since one way masking provides protection for the user, why not keep your medical grade mask and let those who want to unmask do so.

PP, your aggression in your post belies your authenticity (and your accuracy). When you can engage in a discussion without being snide, then we can continue the dialogue. Until then, ciao.
