Is the 22-23 Calendar designed to be an f-u to parents?

No one wants that because it keeps the kids in school until almost July.

Fcps needs to follow what most school districts in the country do.

Start the 3rd week of August.

Finish no later than the first week of June.

Our former district in Ohio started the Wednesday after Labor Day and ends June 9. It’s possible. That’s a big difference from the year round calendar many here would like, but they don’t seem concerned about summer slide.

I really liked the usual Monday/Tuesday off in November. I was good for short trips and nice break in the fall. Why do they even ask parents for feedback? argh

I've posted this before--my DS graduated so late in June that there was only one orientation session available for his college. The upside for me? He couldn't go to "beach week."

Fcps needs to get with the times and asopt a schedule without all of these excessive short weeks and with a school schedule that mimics most of the rest of the country.

Can someone tell me the justification for the teacher work days? I was a teacher and most of the time, administration would tell us we were going to have "time in our classrooms" but would end up scheduling meetings/useless training.

Why oh why did you dems elect her in the first place???

Please start researching your candidates. You had plenty of strong options that you could have put forth instead of her, plus at least one R who was an infinitely better choice.

I'll be curious to see how this fundraising goes. Wonder what her next goal is?

Those were for conferences. But, I guess we don't want to see paents in person anymore.

+1
If we had the time to ourselves to do what we need to do that would be great. If we get two (cumulatively) of the 5 at the beginning of the year I feel lucky. Dr B has talked about adding 3 more before school starts, that that could be coming. Time at the end of the quarter helps with grading and completing Progress Reports, but we could really use one towards the end of the 4th quarter when grades are due.

They haven’t been designated conference days for years. One has been a PD day. While many used the time to hold conferences they weren’t required by FCPS.

I didn’t like when they started after Labor Day because it’s out of sync with many other districts and even colleges. There are few activities and camps open in that last part of August, so if you don’t go on vacation it feels like just wasting time until school starts.

Can someone explain how O days are going to be treated. I still don't understand.

I loved it because beach house rentals were super cheap in Maryland at the end of August. We lived like kings for a week!

Because that is the majority in the country.

You don't need a week to celebrate Easter (maybe a long weekend if you want to include Good Friday) and the entire week before Christmas.

Yes you do. If you celebrated those holidays you would understand. There is a lot of preparation for Christmas and Christmas Eve that takes place the whole month. There are gingerbread houses to be made, cookies, shopping, presents to be wrapped, decorating the house and tree. Going to see lights. It’s the whole month of December. We don’t just roll up to the actual day of the holiday and say Merry Christmas and hope everything comes together. Having that week off is essential.kids there may be traveling.

Do you know what kind of prep goes into Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Diwali? They don't just "roll up" to holidays either.
And, no, you don't need the whole month off before to prepare. You can make gingerbread houses and put your tree up on weekends, order gifts online or go to the store on your lunch break and wrap them after the kids are asleep, and see lights after school at night when lights are visible anyway. Some people start prepping for Christmas after Halloween, so maybe we should get the whole month of November off too?
The hypocrisy of complaining about 3 days off for major holidays of other religions when we have 3 weeks for Christian holidays. Not to say that we should have days off for Christmas or Easter, but boy, your perspective is off.

We were able to fly to Europe at the end of August to see family. I hate that they changed it.

Oh, please. Gingerbread houses and going to see the lights are wants, not needs. Do them on the weekends or after school/work. Or, you know, just stop whining about school being closed for OTHER religions’ holidays.

Nope. There’s too much homework assigned during the week and our kids never get a break during the week. It’s too much to do on a weekend to prepare. We need the whole week. Other holidays are not as big as Christmas and don’t need much time.

Clarification question: You mean other CHRISTIAN holidays are not as big as Christmas, right? I mean, my grandma's pastor would have some words for you about Easter, but, sure, Christmas is big. For Christians. You're definitely not suggesting that Christmas is bigger to non-Christians than their own holidays? Right?
