DC Pedestrian Safety

I’ve always juts presumed that MPD are less likely to pull people over in areas where there is no shoulder or space to safely pull over to effectuate a stop. Otherwise they are going to block all traffic on a street for 10 minutes just for a citation for not coming to a compete stop at a stop sign.

You would be wrong

Pretty sure Jessica won't mind if I'm fighting for pedestrian safety instead of driver impunity.

So the answer is no? Then you should not invoke her name as an emotional appeal to make your points.

News flash: That's the law. Nobody said you had to like it.

LOL. The law also requires you to only enter an unregulated crosswalk when it’s safe to do so.

People like you crack me up. You’re like the AppleCare lady of the streets.

There is no such law. Drivers are required to yield to pedestrians in marked or unmarked crosswalks and are at fault if they strike the pedestrian. The fault of the driver is not reduced if the pedestrian didn't "exercise due care." The pedestrian has the legal right of way, full stop. Now there are obviously people who argue that the fact that the driver could kill the pedestrian means the pedestrian should be careful, which is what pedestrians are fired to do (the "might makes right" argument). My kids are better trained to stop at crosswalks than the drivers running stop signs and failing to stop for pedestrians. But being able to kill someone does not make you legally able to or change the legal calculus of the pedestrian's responsibilities.

Thanks for the cute, the law says the opposite of what LOL poster says.

Failure to STOP and give right of way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or unmarked crosswalk at an intersection (un-signalized crosswalk)
$250 and 3 points

"The penalty for a first-time conviction of reckless driving is imprisonment for up to 3 months and a maximum fine of $500."

What do you think the appropriate penalty should be for accidental death?

DP. What do you think the appropriate penalty should be for driving so recklessly that you killed a person?
