Who are you to tell neighbors to move to the burbs if their children aren't challenged in public middle school classrooms where most classmates lack basic skills? We're entitled to our dramatics for our tax dollars. Fact is, nobody on this thread has argued that Jefferson can never be acceptable to most IB families. I see posts arguing that Jefferson won't be acceptable to most IB families for many years at the rate it's going absent a lot more academic tracking. This is stating the obvious. The more we hear from you, PP, the gladder I am that we passed on Jefferson for a charter. |
because you’re literally unwilling to listen or do the work. so you want to exit - exit. |
“Unwilling to listen or do the work” . Accusing people of being racist is literally the laziest way to approach this issue. ALL you do is alienate people and ( maybe ) make yourself feel better. |
If you think remedial education is ok for middle school, good for you. But don't be all confused about why people are choosing charters. |
Dude. You guys are the ones insisting that a parent who wrote here that they are happy at Jefferson must be wrong. Zero indication you are actually engaged in a bona fide discussion. But lots to indicate you’re just weirdly hung up on proving these schools are bad in order to justify your own choice. Nobody cares you sent Larlo to Basis. We hope he thrives there. Go away - this conversation is not for you. |
Nobody did this:
“ Dude. You guys are the ones insisting that a parent who wrote here that they are happy at Jefferson must be wrong” They offered what’s known as an additional perspective. Are you all incapable of rational thought? This exquisite sensitivity has to end. Lordy. |
yeah no, that’s not what happened. clearly you have no actual interest in these schools except as a foil for your own choices. so please just step away. |
The half dozen IB Brent families who went on to to Jefferson this year can be thrilled with their choice without that changing the fact that more than 85% of the 4th grade families rejected the program, like they've done for years.
By any objective standard, Jefferson is failing Brent. Some of us want things to improve, and not at glacial speed. Figuring out what, exactly, is behind the exodus, although the Jefferson building was beautifully renovated recently, seems like a logical jumping off point. It will come as no surprise that DCPS doesn't bother to survey Brent (or Tyler, or Van Ness) parents about what they want at Jefferson. |
Again—fall in line or step away. There’s no room for questions. |
I do remember the principal of Jefferson came to meet with Tyler parents about having advanced Spanish classes available (I think they Had already hired a teacher and it was happening that year before the pandemic- 2019) Don’t know how it’s going now, but seemed like a good faith effort. I was just a pre-K parent listening in being nosy. |
There are definitely more than half a dozen Brent families with kids in this year's sixth grade class at Jefferson. I know this, because my family is one of them. (And for what's it's worth, Jefferson also has kids from Van Ness this year, as Van Ness gradated its first fifth-grade class last year.) I understand your larger point, but please try to make it without hyperbole. |
That’s great! How big is the 6th grade overall? |
You seem to be assuming that Jefferson kids are just randomly assigned to classes without any consideration of individual aptitude/ability. From our experience so far, that does not at all appear to be the case -- at least not for the core (non-elective) classes. |
Maury is a lovely school. I taught there and would send my own kid in a heartbeat. |
Brent families, yes, in-boundary families, no. |
