And both Schumer and Biden laughed at McConnell because they know how things really work and that McConnell is just posturing to try to save face after he got embarrassed by both the Democrats and the Republicans.

Actually, McConnell did what Manchin requested. Manchin had no problem burning a reconciliation bill to raise the debt ceiling. However, Schumer wouldn't do it, leaving the only option being to change the filibuster rules. Manchin had committed not to do so, and thus McConnell did Manchin a favor (and showed more willingness to compromise than Schumer). It's a favor tht will likely be a NO vote until the pricetag is$1.5T or less.

Also, Manchin has no love for Schumer after his little floor speech. Biden and Schumer might be laughing at McConnell, bit they're missing the big picture. Everything hinges on Manchin, and neither has endeared themselves to him. Combine that with Biden saying what he did about Sinema's bathroom harassment, and you have a recipe for Democratic failure.

Schumer needs to learn respect for members of his own party, not Progressive activists on Twitter.

Manchin has steadfastly refused to work constructively with his party. They tolerate him (and Sinema) to keep the majority, but they don’t respect him or trust him to act in good faith. They know who Manchin’s really bought and paid by.

You think only liberals can be Democrats??

Where did I say Manchin wasn’t a Democrat?

Grateful every day for Manchin, Sineman, and the several house members who have the good sense and courage to stand up for the long-term best interests of our country.

This is what I don't understand. There are other democratic senators who feel the same way and have reputations as moderates.

Their states may not be quite as red. And, there will be some in trouble next time. Warnock and Ossof are far, far left. Georgia may be purple--but it is not bright blue.

+1 I admire their courage to stand up for what they believe, even if it's not appreciated by liberals like Pelosi, Schumer and Sanders.

Limits and cuts are coming.

Late last week Biden held marathon meetings with nearly two dozen progressive and moderate lawmakers to get his agenda passed.

He's now considering limits to tuition-free community college and universal childcare to cut down the massive, progressive-backed $3.5 trillion package in a bid to pacify moderates and spending hawks.

The White House and Democratic leaders are weighing attaching or strengthening income caps to a number of key agenda items, according to two officials familiar with the discussions.

I hope the the child tax credit income caps are $150,000 per household because what it is now is ridiculous. Why are people making $400,000 getting paid $1,200/month for four children?

As long as families with two healthy adult parents but only have one income (ie having a stay at home parent), we should not be penalizing high income households. If the government can subsidize the life choices of those who dont want to work, they can also provide benefit to those who do work.

If one person is choosing not to work that's on them. But the household is still making $400,000. There is no reason the income limits are this high.

Sure there is. People making $400k have expenses too. What makes your arbitrary cutoff number better than $400k?

Oh yeah, the government needs to subsidize your speedboat, $1 million house, and everything else. Please.

I get that poor and stupid people think that $400k is filthy rich, but comments like this don’t prove much of anything beyond the fact that you work as a walmart greeter. $400k HHI is not rich in any major city in this country.

Oh, sweetie. Yes. It is.
Just because you can't have everything you want doesn't mean you aren't rich.

Agreed. I make ~$400k. My family and I live very comfortably in the DC area. I never have to worry about going to the doctor because I can’t afford the copay, I can afford childcare for my kids, I live in a neighborhood with ample grocery stores and easy access to public transport, I am surrounded by great public schools. And the percentage of taxes I pay on investments and portions of my income are lower than many people making half of what I do. That’s not ok - that’s the rich keeping the rich, rich and the poor poor.

We have a shrinking middle class and that literally threatens the American way of life.

And, yet.... If Biden has his way, you will get child care, pre-school, and college all at the taxpayer's expense.
And, you will continue to get "child care tax payments" until your children are 18.
Does this make sense?

This is such BS. No, people making $400k will not get tax payments and they aren’t now. Stop the BS and lies, Vlad. Or Corey. Or Don Jr. Or whatever BS artist is posting this nonsense.

This really amazes me. They KNOW these far left ideas are not popular and yet they try to push them through anyway, hiding behind “this is what the American people voted for”. But they didn’t. They voted for the moderate person they THOUGHT Biden would be. People didn’t vote in a far left agenda - they voted in someone who wasn't Trump. Next time they’ll know what they’re really voting for and will adjust accordingly.

Let me say this loud and clear for the folks in the cheap seats: They don’t really CARE whether you think their ideas are popular. The game is full control so you no longer matter.

Democrats could have been the moderates people voted for, and thereby held onto the levers of power for a decade or more after what Trump did. They made the fatal mistake of pushing too far, too fast. Americans don't want to become Europe right now, if ever. Democrats seem to have forgotten that people left Europe to come here.

Well, that was over a hundred years ago. Recently there aren't a lot of Europeans clamoring to come here. You may be surprised at what "Americans don't want".
