This is true (Arlington admin here)

Then why on earth would APS handle it the way they did. Just say the guy left and announce his interim replacement. Why call it "approved leave"?

They probably just wanted to keep it low key and then announce the transition when he was gone. My question is why someone went to ARLnow with it and what was said that made this worth running a story about it with minimal details.

Why was he hired in the first place then? I really hope Duran was disgusted by his involvement to stop new instruction in March 2020 and axed him for cause.

No new instruction was the equity playbook move at the most "progressive" public schools across the country. It's not like this guy thought it up.

And your School Board hired a former equity professional to be the superintendent.

I don't really think that's why the guy got fired.

The decision to run a story on this is for sure questionable.

Nope, we don't. Teachers have been saying this forever- less central office staff, more teachers and staff in the schools!!

This fellow has been there since, what, 2019? And they're just figuring this out now? Surely they had some idea of the qualifications for the job at the time he was hired. I'm skeptical.

Seriously, what qualifications could you possibly need for this job.

Yeah. I kind of think we can do better in terms of equity if we are providing high-quality instruction to all students. More teachers, more classrooms. Though… I guess these huge classes are equitably awful.

I’m a teacher, too. There are too many of these people in cubicles now, not working with kids. (Which would be awful, IMHO.) Get them into classrooms!

Oh no. However will they survive?

IF (and it's a huge if) he were fired, they'd let him go this way so that he doesn't sue them. Plain and simple.

Ultimately, I agree that the Arlnow story is really bad form. If he's been fired, they ought to be figuring out why for their readers. If he's sick or something else perfectly innocent, they probably owe him an apology.

The story definitely gives the impression that Arlnow has heard of some backstory that they can't yet report.

If he is being let go- a big if! - plus the woman who was replaced on the virtual learning program, plus the email today indicating that they can't implement the testing program as contemplated because of a shortage of tests....I don't know. It gives the impression that they are hiring people with big ideas, but who lack the experience or ability to implement them.

The same is going on in FCCPS. It’s the new trend. They create positions and levels of administration while class sizes increase. But hey, there is a new high school so everyone should be happy right?

I predict they found something in his past. Dude was otherwise qualified for the job.

It is an interesting "coincidence" regarding the VLP firing that had not occurred to me. Perhaps this does really stink of cleaning house (without, of course, taking any responsibility for the mess or even acknowledging that one exists).
