Arizonan back again. We just tried taco hamba for the first time last weekend. Their refried beans tasted like they came from a can. And their enchiladas were weirdly spicy. Not like read sauce spice, like hot salsa spicy. Really weird for enchiladas. I’ll probably give them another shot but I was disappointed by the first try. I’ll also say district taco has some decent things. Their beans are disappointing but many of their taco options are good. The chorizo and egg one is good. I think the carnitas and carne asada were also pretty good but it’s been a couple years now since I’ve had them. There’s a couple places in the silver spring area I’ve seen recommended but haven’t yet tried. There is a random taco shack on downtown bethesda next to the violin store which I did try a few months ago and thought was pretty good for just a burrito or taco type thing. I was the only gringo there, for what that’s worth. |
also pp here... my spouse thought Villa Maya in Rockville for Tex Mex was pretty good. |
| Forgot to add that CAsa Oaxaca in bethesda is pretty okay. I think I got mole enchiladas and they were solid. |
I also have not been impressed by taco bamba. Was surprised to see it recommended. |
| And the shack place in Bethesda is named Delicia’s—it is next to weaver’s house of violins. |
cactus cantina is inedible. |
I'm a CA PP who called out Taco Bamba. It's better than a lot of other places, and it's more "authentic" in that it's just the meat and some onions and cheese, and they have the different salsas. They do have the more modern, fusion style tacos, too. |
This is why asking Californians to identify good Mexican food is a futile exercise. I thought taco bamba seemed like a more expensive step up from chipotle, though I’ve only been to the Chinatown location. I do like their drinks, though. I’d rather eat a burrito from pica taco. |

I am from Colorado. This place is as close as it gets for me https://www.facebook.com/Tortas-Y-Tacos-La-Chiquita-Mexicana-357747881024056/
I no longer even attempt to find breakfast burritos or green chile (Colorado or New Mexican style) I do like Tacos Picosos in Alexandria. It's not really what I am used to but I love their beans. I like Bartacos fish tacos I really dislike District Taco. I still like Chipotle in a nostalgic way but find that many locations around here suck. There are so many more options now than when I moved here 15 years ago! |
Ummm yeah, Colorado has terrible Mexican food. You drown it in that terrible sauce…. Bleach. |
No bleach in our food and plenty of unsauced options. |
|
La mexicana on Route 1 is probably the best of the bunch.
I think District Taco is gross. |
? Are you Mexican? |
| I think Guapos is pretty good (from SE TX) |
| New Mexican here and I prefer New Mexican food to Mexican food. Yes, it's different. There's nowhere to find it around here, except possibly at my Alma Mater's reunion every year. |
