Selena Gomez sounds like she's at a table read, not actually acting.

I love this show but I wish they had done more of a “slow burn” on Selena’s plot line. They punched us in the face way too early with big reveals.

I think it's part of hte joy of the show - bam bam bam what's coming next!

Agree 100%. I was listening to the Pop Culture Happy Hour episode on OMITB and they were effusive about her performance, and I was like....are we watching the same show? Because it seems like she's half-asleep. That being said, I LOVE this show so much. My biggest complaint is a criminal underuse (so far) of Jackie Hoffman. Why hire such an amazing actress/comedian to play a random neighbor and not give her anything to do???? I really hope she ends up playing a bigger role in upcoming episodes.

Do you think this is appropriate for a 14 yo? We watch shows together like Schitt's Creek, Brooklyn 99, etc. and this sounds great.

I actually really like her performance. Her slow, almost stoned delivery is such a funny contrast to the hyperactivity of Steve Martin and Martin Short. (I LOVE her wardrobe in this, too.)

I get the contrast but she’s not a good actor. It’s flat but not in a believable way. She can be “flat” but still give a snide look or something, anything. She falls so far behind her costars.

Really? I’m on episode three and think she’s a monotone stiff…

I can’t handle her voice, it’s too monotone and nasally.

Truly awful to the point I can see the script on the page in my mind’s eye.

Really fun show, we just finished episode 3.

I guess I’m the odd one out. I think it could have been great but falls flat. It just has stupid parts (like when the Selena Gomez character talks to the dead guy?!). I hate the language (F word is used gratuitously), I think Selena Gomez is annoying and a terrible actress (does her voice annoy anyone else?), and it’s just completely unrealistic. I do love Martin Short and Steve Martin, though. There are a couple funny moments between them.

Agree 100% It is so bad! I don’t understand why people like it.
