Why are you people traveling now?!

And beach / outdoors is low risk. Join 2021.

Most people who booked end of summer travel booked it back when Covid numbers looked great. No one knew the antivaxers were going to screw us all. I don’t judge the travelers. I’m thankfully I traveled in June, but that was just luck.

It’s not “luck.” We all knew in the spring what our first day of school would be.

There's different types of travel though.
Going to local beaches is one thing, flying to Orlando and going to Disney world is completely different and so much riskier!

Also, I'm assuming people planned these trips back when things seemed safer. I would probably cancel a Disney trip, but not a driving beach trip.

OP here. I do agree with there being varying degrees of risk. I just can’t believe how much Disney/flying I’m seeing right now.

We are not traveling anywhere but how do you think that’s more risky than eating in the school cafeteria? We went to the Florida beaches for two weeks this summer and I’m far more worried about their exposure in school. We had control during the trip. We don’t there.

It IS Covid. Covid could just have easily surged earlier in summer and calmed down later in summer. No one has a crystal ball. Do know exactly what Covid will be doing in December? If so, pray tell so I can plan accordingly.

It was prebooked. I’m not sure why you are confused by this.

We are staying put and definitely in a wait and see mode with regards to travel during fall break or Thanksgiving. I know this might mean we will have fewer options, but I do not want to jeopardize school in any way right now. The most important thing for our well being right now is in person school without tons of Covid outbreaks. I don't understand why so many people are willing to risk that for a vacation... sure, you might have fun at Disney this weekend, but will it be fun to spend the next two weeks at home AND know you helped ensure a bunch of kids who didn't go to Disney had to do the same?

Think, people.

Well you are clearly superior and more virtuous. Duh.

DP. Yes, people who are prioritizing school over risky vacations are superior and more virtuous.

Why anyone with kids under 12 would have planned a vacation that involved flights etc when we had no idea when kids would get vaccinated etc is beyond me. There are far less risky options (driving to a beach rental has been mentioned) where you have more control over your exposure to others.

I’ll try to go slow so you can keep up:
1) School is going to happen on a set date
2) We know everyone is going to gather on that set date
3) To ensure the health of others, you don’t travel near that set date
4) This is different from holiday travel, which is OPTIONAL and DOESN’T HAVE TO HAPPEN.

Moron.

It’s called travel insurance, and canceling when things look unsafe. Not sure why YOU are confused.

Because an education is necessary on every level, and worth a bit of risk.

Going to the beach is not.

See the difference?

That said - I’m also wasting my breath in this response

Haha yes.
But that’s why I don’t post any travel except to my narrow circle of friends - don’t want to be attacked by any crazies!

Perhaps you should consider why people might be critical of your travel instead of personal image damage control ?

Not confused. Travel insurance is pricey and doesn’t even cover the full cost of a trip if it’s CFAR. Many families are also all vaccinated and just don’t view the risk of Covid the same as you do. If my family gets sick we will of course stay home but statistically that’s still unlikely to happen.

We canceled a fully paid for trip to Costa Rica and didn’t get our money back (because the tour company sucks), but it wasn’t the right thing to do. This trip was supposed to happen in March 2020 and we rebooked it in Feb 2021 on the Hope that the vaccine would make it safer to travel by late august, but all the idiots refusing the vaccine screwed that up for us.
