| Friend's DD got in ED at Northwestern last year with lower ACT/SAT. From FCPS. Good ECs. Had a private college counselor. |
| OP here, thanks for all the insights. DC has 8 APs, 5s on all but two of them where she got 4s. The suggestion about an eco-related internship or something similar is a great idea, thanks. Not sure if DC would have time to squeeze that in before app season, but perhaps something else. |
| Also have a kid applying ED this year and we are very nervous but excited. Had a chance to visit the campus earlier this summer and it is BEAUTIFUL. |
Yes that is one of the three months of the year with good weather. I thought it had too many concrete plaza type areas around the major buildings. Makes it look harsher than necessary. |
To each their own. I thought it was very charming and I appreciated the mix of modern and classical/Gothic. Also felt a little grittier than some of the more overtly manicured campuses I’ve visited. Beautiful in the fall. |
Agree! A slightly gritty and very windy blustery charm about 7 of the 9 school months. |
| Are there average stats available for Northwestern ED? |
google "common data set" and Northwestern |
| For anyone considering Northwestern, be sure to visit the school in January or February first. |
Visited in February one year and we actually really liked it. There's a certain coziness and wintriness about northern schools, but it isn't for everyone. I will say I would much rather prefer the cold and snow over hot and human any day of the week. |
I am the PP that made the suggestion. I prefer cold to hot as well. But many people might experience Lake Michigan winter winds and have second thoughts. |
Oh I agree. In an ideal world the winter would be a month or two shorter, but otherwise the campus and location and vibe is pretty much ideal in my opinion. But I’m sure it can be polarizing for many people. |
| DS just graduated from Northwestern…what a fabulous experience he had! (As an FYI, he applied ED from a DMV private)….we asked him at graduation if he would change anything about his college experience and he laughed “….it could not have been any better!” NU is a special place with so many diverse opportunities and experiences for the taking. Good luck to you all! |
So glad to hear. Must have been a very difficult last two years with COVID, so kudos to your kid. Do you know anecdotally if many other kids from DMV privates end up at Northwestern? |
| Crossing our fingers for Northwestern ED too. Visited two years ago from Maine and we fell in love, with both NU and Chicago. |
