why do parents sign up for a giant ECNL roster (Mclean 2006 has 28 players)

Anonymous
It’s the parents choice. Supply and demand. The market will determine.

I agree. There is a very nasty Mclean parent who needs to stop it.

Can someone explain the thinking?
Do kids beyond the top 11 get recruited to college?

Why do you care. You're a loser. Let McLean make that money.

There was no ill intent. PP was simply providing actual facts (which this site often lacks) to refute what another poster claimed, and that poster subsequently retracted when the facts were shown via the links. The links posted are public info right off the college athletic pages and state which club the girls played for. You can find the same details on McLean site. It wasn’t a negative about the players, it was simply confirming that they played for that club and played in the college cup.

There are 28 on 2006 girls ECNL, 19 different players on 2006 girls green.
A number of the green players came from other ECNL or DA programs this year.
Mclean generally sends about 18 girls to college soccer programs each year. The commits are listed on their site.

And how many years did they put in at McLean/when did they join?

Your question is irrelevant. This is not about McLean training quality, it's about why do parents sign up when the roster is large. It's because regardless of where they have been, McLean appears to have a good track record of placing girls in good college programs.

The players listed earlier would have made it to a college roster regardless. Try again.

And yet,they still came.

Given the changes in the girls recruiting and youth soccer landscape over the past couple of years, I wouldn’t rely too much on past information. I think a better indicator of their current ability to place girls into college programs is where and how many of their 22s are committing. I would hope parents of rising HS kids understand that the days of two primary college feeder clubs in NOVA are gone.

Because McLean has the best training around and your very best chance of getting your kid on an ACC team. Their players start and play on D1 teams across the country. FCV...players are on but dont start and barely play.

When was a player named?

Don’t forget Union also has MSI, DMV FC, and SYC players

Way too many clubs are now feeders-the hand of Nadir seems to be everywhere. You wonder if the man sleeps.

At least one starter from three of the four final four teams in the 2021 Spring NCAA College Cup was a McLean kid five of the final eight. My guess is that parents and players see McLean as the best pathway to play college soccer.

How many of those kids were developed at other clubs (i.e. U14 or below) before joining McLean?

development doesn't stop at U14, unless you want to tell Man City they better produce some more Foden's

This is a really toxic thread.

05 technically has upwards of 40 on the roster... There are 2 teams wearing the VA Union name on the girls side at some age groups - one ECNL, one "composite". The composite team at 05, for example, will play EDP, NL PRO, and tournaments, but still trains with the ECNL girls -- so they aren't actually just "watching their teammates play".

And why? I'll answer for my family... maybe some of the toxic responders will get it and knock it off. For us, Mclean is conveniently located, which is a big deal for larger families. Composite gives my kiddo the opportunity to play in bigger tournaments, enjoy some of the travel experience, train with quality players, and have "room to grow" while still not keeping us out of traffic for an hour + in the evenings. For recruiting, yes, kids beyond the top 11 get recruited to college, they might just have to do a little more legwork. They may not go to Power 5 schools, but if "playing in college" is all your kid wants, Mclean's composite teams are still a great option.
