Because school starts on 8/30? Just because they haven't communicated the plan with parents doesn't mean that plans aren't being made.

Why would they wait so long to communicate with parents knowing how anxious so many are? Other schools have been able to tell parents something (see PPs).

I’m guessing it has something to do with the fact that we have a new principal.

Whittier has three outdoor classrooms, one under a tent. ECE will eat in classrooms, and then K-2 and 3-5 have their lunches spread across the outdoor classrooms during two lunch periods. In bad weather, they'll make use of classrooms plus the cafeteria.

Principals, especially new ones, are completely overwhelmed this year. There is SO MUCH to work out. They need more time

Why don’t you just send the principal an email and ask?

Classrooms are not good enough, unless DCPS plans to quarantine the whole class on a positive test.
If one kid has COVID and the other kids eat in the same room for 10min without a mask, they are all exposed.

Absurdly, I think DC is not planning to quarantine the whole class.

Deal has a “learn about lunch” event scheduled on Monday night from 630-730p on the turf field posted on their website (I haven’t seen an email but may have missed it) I’m still hoping they will come up with an outside option for families and kids concerned about indoor meals - if this is an area of concern for you please try to attend!

What about rain?

Deal really should have tents for lunch. At least until the weather turns colder. There is space.

As school begins for some and plans for others to reopen next week are shared, please keep this names of schools with indoor or outdoor lunch going. Thanks.

Never mind - this is no longer on their website/calendar and wasn't noted in the email so I guess not happening...assuming I didn't miss something...
