How does the car know you are parking? Or you mean it happens when you shift to park? |
|
I do pick-up and drop-off at preschool and elementary, plus the pool parking lot and my cul de sac with 16 kids where someone is always playing.
The cameras give me extra confidence that I can see the kids, parents staring at their phones, and rolling basketballs that might suddenly enter my path. |
In my car it pops on any time you are in reverse, and there's a button to push to put it on as long as you are below a certain speed (it's somewhere betwwen 5 and 10 mph, can't quite tell) |
When. You. Go. In. Reverse. |
It’s this, and I don’t even have a 360 degree camera (just a rear camera). Of course, you can park without it, but it really does make things easier. |
| Can you retrofit a front facing camera on an SUV? |
|
360s are awesome for entering big parking garages. Near the ticket-dispensing machine, look at the surrounding concrete and it is ALWAYS banged up from countless people scraping their wheels on it.
The 360 cameras save you from wrecking your wheels in these scenarios. |
Then this doesn't apply to you. Move along. For the rest of us, we like the camera's ability to show us our surroundings as we manuvre in tight quarters. Have you ever had to park in a garage? Look on the curbs for all the tire marks, and the pillars for bumps and scrapes. It's also perfect for parking in my own garage as I back in, and the 360 camera allow me to see when the front end just clears the line so that I leave as much room as possible at the back of the car for loading/unloading groceries. |
To be honest, reverse is also gimmicky. |
I already have a regular backup camera. No one seems able to articulate what’s better about 360 other than just saying they like it. |
Best reply! |
I don't have a 360 yet (though I would love one!) but I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one that hates those tight parking garages and especially the entrances. Helpful to hear that this might make me feel more confident. |
| I’m a terrible driver and parker. I’m self aware. But I see you people out there on the roads and lots of you suck too. |
Omg me too! I used to think I was a bad driver but from the things I see... Totally agree that most people just have no idea, or don't care, where their car is relative to the lane, etc. |
I mean what is there to articulate? What are the reasons you like (if you do) like a backup camera? I like the 360 camera in my Telluride because it has alerts to go along with the 360 view. When I put the car in reverse it monitors all around the vehicle. If I am driving below 12 mph and I have it on (which I always do) it is monitoring the vehicle. So say I pull out into the street into oncoming traffic, it will alert if a car is coming. Mine also comes on when I turn on my turn signals (at any speed) so I can see cars beside me, that may possibly be in my blind spot. I’ve only had my Telluride a month so I can’t yet speak to all the benefits of the 360 cameras but I do think it a great driving enhancement. The only draw back I would say it that these cameras really hinder new drivers. My 18 year DD has never driven a car without a camera and really struggles backing up without one. Even though she was taught to drive to not look at the camera (DH covered the camera when teaching her to drive). |
