16% of county residents aged 12+, 15% of county residents aged 18+, and 7% of county residents aged 65+ (!) are not fully vaccinated. 8% of the 12+ population and 7% of the 18+ population haven't even received one shot. I know some Montgomery County adults who haven't been vaccinated, and you probably do too. |
Not really. Even in MoCo, there are still plenty of eligible people over 17 who are not vaccinated. in the 17-39 age group, 68% are vaccinated. So 32% aren't. In the 40 to 64 age group, 74% are vaccinated. So 26% aren't. Those are pretty significant rates of unvaccinated people, when there are variants spreading around. |
| Yes please. |
| MoCo will be announcing mask mandates either Monday or Tuesday. Need to wear at all indoor public spaces. |
| The CDC recommends indoor masking in all public spaces even for vaccinated in areas of high community spread. MoCo is not an area of high community spread. |
| Local governments instituting mask mandates even for the vaccinated have got it all wrong. The main problem is the unvaccinated. By focusing on mask mandates instead of vaccines (especially in highly vaccinated areas) these local governments, along with the media, are really sending a terrible message about the high levels of immunity conferred by vaccines. Not to mention masking vaccinated people is unlikely to have a major influence on the spread, hospitalizations, or deaths. It makes me very sad. As a liberal person who believes in vaccines, I proudly go maskless in MoCo because I believe it sends the right message and hope the county does not institute a mask mandate for said reasons above. I also am upset how so many otherwise intelligent people cannot see what is going on with the media, politics, and distortion of data on COVID on both sides and undermining of vaccines. So many family and friends have bought into all of the fear mongering and act like vaccines are useless. |
You "proudly go maskless"? What are you proud of/about, specifically? What message do you think you're sending, aside from "I don't use public transportation" and "I don't work in or or use medical services"? |
The OP is sending the message that vaccines actually work and that another mask mandate simply punishes those that have been vaccinated. You either believe the science or you don't. Kids <12 are not included here, simply referring to those who can get vaccinated, but don't. Stop reading the fear mongering, gasping we are all going to die nonsense. Understand the math, go get the vaccine, wear a mask if you feel uncomfortable. It's not that hard. "According to the latest data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, less than 0.004% of people who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 experienced a breakthrough case resulting in hospitalization, and less than 0.001% have died from the disease. That’s about 6,600 severe breakthrough cases out of more than 163 million fully vaccinated people." https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/coronavirus-pandemic-vaccine-updates-08-02-21/h_4258aa07cbf2206435b5f84328ddab33 |
I don't know what to say to people who feel that an indoor mask mandate is punishment. |
I'm sure you don't. I don't know what to say to people who like being told to wear mask as a part of normal behavior. Read the article, understand the math and realize that masks are not the the ultimate fix to this problem. Only vaccines are. OP has it right. |
Nobody thinks it's normal behavior. It may, however, be normal behavior as part of a set of mitigation strategies during a pandemic. I can't make other people get vaccinated. I can wear a mask. |
You can't make other people wear a mask either. |
Correct. But a mask mandate can. |
| If Hogan is going to overrule Montgomery County, it should be to keep (public) schools open, masks or no masks. |
