| StartUp on Netflix. Great kdrama |

Of what's on Netflix:
- Live Up to Your Name is a fun romance with a strong historical half (it's a time travel situation) - I loved Hotel de Luna, and it has historical elements - All of the Reply series are high quality and true to their time periods - My Mister is a really beautiful show, but not romantic or historical, and has a lot of sadness (and ultimately hope) - Same with Misaeng, really beautiful and compelling, not a romance and no historical element I agree with a previous poster who said Healer is up there with CLOY for best romance - but you have to watch that on Viki, at present. |
PP who said the bolded. I haven't seen Hotel del Luna, My Mister, or the Reply series, but they are on my list. I've heard such good things about Reply 1988 and My Mister that I'm waiting until I have time to just indulge in binging without interruptions from my children.
I agree with the comments about Live Up to Your Name and Misaeng. I'll also add Move to Heaven. The actor who plays the youngest soldier in CLOY plays a young man with Asperger's who, with his father and then his uncle, have a company that cleans and packs up the homes of people who've died. Really wonderful characters and storytelling. I just finished binging DP on Netflix. It's only 6 episodes and excellent, about a pair of soldiers tasked with finding deserters. I wasn't expecting it to pack such a punch, but it sure did. Theme was bullying and the (non)response of onlookers. |
| Healer is on or with the greatness of CLOY? |
Is Healer on par with CLOY? |
It doesn't have the sob factor that CLOY had, and CLOY really is a unicorn. But I loved loved loved Healer. It's not really fair to compare them. If you're just coming off CLOY, watch something else first as a palate cleanser. Try something that is really good but not a romance, like Prison Playbook, Navillera, My Mister, a Reply series, etc. Then watch Healer. Otherwise you might be constantly comparing the two and cheat yourself of some of the pleasure of Healer. |
Agree with this. Just know CLOY was once in a decade kind of drama. Nothing will be as good, so don’t compare others against it. |
| I'll agree with the above, CLOY is just its own show in its own dimension. A "palate cleanser" is a great idea, and go into other shows open to their own greatness in their own ways; a direct comparison of one show with another will only lead to dissatisfaction. |

Agree with comments that CLOY is a unicorn and can’t compare
On Netflix- Really Enjoying Hometown cha cha cha right now for a feel good - slice of life. If you liked the village scenes in CLOY you will enjoy this and the leads are really great. It’s getting real high ratings right now internationally /Korea . I think it’s same production company as CLOY. They drop 2 a weekend so it’s not a binge yet Other Netflix recommendations listed above are good reply series, etc. hotel deal Luna is unusual probably for Americans but enjoyed it. Was mixed on Start Up - had a strong start but a lot of people didn’t like where it went. MY mister is always reviewed as more intense so I’m waiting for right time I really loved Vincenzo but would not put that as an early Kdrama to watch |
| I highly recommend Dear My Friends on Netflix, a slice of life drama about lifelong female friends. It touches upon many issues and there is romance. |
And to add to my post, while it doesn't have Hyun Bin, it dies have the equally beautiful and talented Jo in Sung. |
|
| I watch/loved CLOY early pandemic. Started and gave up on MANY since then. Slogged thru Love (ft Marriage. & Divorce) for one good storyline. Based on this thread, I’ve started Healer. And will continue with it: good production, acting, interesting story lines. And so far none of the super silly girl, too rough guy, etc. |
Jo in Sung is stunning. He did incredible work in It's Okay, That's Love. Not on Netflix, but is on Viki. It's intense and doesn't get everything "right" with the mental health themes, but I forgive that 100% because it's such a lovely show. I also love Dear My Friend! It's really beautiful, albeit slower paced. I love the stories of the older generation. So poignant and something we don't see much of in U.S. tv. |
If you haven't seen it, you would love Navillera. |
