You know, it’s interesting that MCPS is choosing to spend money on these types of marketing emails. Almost like they’re ‘recruiting’ videos. Why does MCPS care if students leave? I have no idea why MCPS is spending money on convincing parents to stick with MCPS, but they are.

Which tells me that all of the posters like this PP who say ‘Good riddance’ to the families who want to go private are full of crap. MCPS, at least, doesn’t want too many families to leave. Must be a reason for that.

+1. I am curious too. We moved our son to private high school (not because of the pandemic but because that is what we always planned to do). I still have a kid in MCPS (and will put them in private HS when the time comes). These emails, calls, videos, etc. seem like a massive waste of resources. What do they care what my family does? Focus on currently enrolled students mcps.

How much money? Please let us know. How much does it cost to send an e-mail to tell former MCPS parents about MCPS's plans for the fall?

Most public school employees believe in the mission of public education. This means they think most, if not all, students are best served in the public school setting and of course they want people to re-enroll.

The video informs everyone, whether enrolled in public or private school, what the protocols will be in the Fall and so it's very much for currently enrolled students too. The cost of sending a special email to link to the video to some people is pretty close to zero.

Bingo.

Pulled our kids out of private school last year and will likely have to homeschool this year. I had to call the health department too many times to report our private school violating safety protocols and knew it would just get worse as some people think this is all over. Have friends in another private that actually took the pandemic seriously and continue their health protocols this fall but that can change at the drop of a hat with one loud parent asking for something different.

The cost of the video wasn't nothing. Email is. However they should have sent that to all families early on so we could register for virtual. I think its horrible that they are not taking Covid seriously at all and no testing, everything back to normal, especially with our 12 and under kids. I thought they'd have some safety precautions in place. Now it leaves the rest of us in a bind.

We may keep ours registered with MCPS but keep the unvaccinated child out until they can get vaccinated.

Obviously the video cost money, but spending money to communicate policy changes to the public isn't a waste and fulfills the "focus on currently enrolled students" thing PP said should happen.

I love MCPS and wish them the best. When it gets back to normal we are coming right back.

I’m a huge MCPS doubter but this video was reassuring. I expected masks and there will be masks but I am so happy that my kinder and first grader will have a more normal experience in the classroom and recess. Truly I’m feeling so much more optimistic now. (Not likely the comments about it not being strict/miserable enough though —- shhhh go to virtual academy. The rest of us are desperate for a hint of the school we remember and love!)

15 consecutive school days absent and you’re automatically disrenrolled.
