Neighbor poop can

It prob needs to be emptied more often. Or they’re not cleaning up yard frequently. My dad would let it build up and ours got whiffy

I have a small metal trash can with lid that I use for dog poop. It gets emptied weekly for trash pickup. If you can smell it that far they’re letting it go too long.

Why is it weird? Do you even have dogs? When I would throw dog poop bags into my regular plastic trash can rats would chew through the plastic and get into the poop. It was disgusting. Now I use a small metal lidded trash can just for dog waste and no more open poop bags strewn about.

We do (a small metal trash can with a lid, lined with a trash bag of course). We keep it in the backyard because that is where our dog poops- just easier. We take the bag out weekly then night before trash day.

It does not smell at all (except when we remove the lid of course).

That will eventually attract animals. Ew.

Maybe you’d prefer people throw their dogs’ poop bags directly into your yard?

Never been an issue. It is a sturdy can with a lid that clips down on the sides. Cannot be opened by any animal.

OP here. I have no problem with them having a poop can, so I’m not sure why people responded so defensively. (No i never have loud parties) I came here to figure out how to deal with this in a civil, polite manner from pet owners. I’m sure no one wants their backyard to smell like poop..

To answer the question of how I know it’s the can. I’ve been in several of the nearby yards and the smell is strongest when in the part of the yards closest to the can. It’s pretty obvious.

The neighbor got the dog sometime in the past year.

OP again…. Ignore the last partial typoed sentence…

Offer to hose it out for them when you hose out your cans. You do hose out your cans weekly in summer, right? Otherwise the hot garbage smells from your can are competing with the hot poop smell from theirs. Plus, you probably have maggots at the bottom.

They probably are not emptying it out as often or, it’s just in a really bad spot where the sun heats it up all day. You can knock on the door and ask them to move it to a different spot on their yard and explain to them that the smell test cuddles through the neighborhood. But I wouldn’t and hope for windy days.

We’re using an old Diaper Champ from when our kids were in diapers. It keeps the odor in.

OP you are ridiculous.

Bag it and put it in the trash.

In a can with a better fitting lid? Or tie off the bag after you clean the yard, and then start with a new bag?

Lots of people have dogs without having a yard that smells like poop.

Poop should be picked up, put into a small biodegradable bag, and tied. Then into a lined trash can. If they're just picking it up with a paper towel and tossing into can, they suck.

How is the smell today OP?
