So clubs aren’t putting in their best teams why?

MLS Next prohibits and ECNL is not affiliated with USYS. Apparently Arlington is happy to proceed anyway, which is something others should consider.

So does that mean that Arlington poster is bragging about beating B teams from other top clubs?

ECNL teams are allowed, they just didn't enter. Whose fault is that? Maybe it's too hot for the other teams. I don't know. You play who is in front of you. As for MLS Next....that's BS that MLS Next said that their teams weren't allowed to enter. I heard they told the clubs this 2 days for rosters were locked as well.

With that said...OP, can you share, and I'm not trying to be an a-ss about this, but can you share why you care if other teams from Arlington wins? Like do you just LOVE your club? I kind of find that admirable and crazy at the same time. I can give two sh-its about other teams in the club my kid plays for. But that's me.

^— there are two clubs with two age groups in MLS Next in Virginia. As far as ECNL, I don’t know.

But apparently Arlington is happy to lead the way making State Cup an actual thing again.

Yes, absolutely love my DC’s club. Proper club, professionally ran, loads of players at varieties of levels.

Simply wrong. MLSNext prohibits MLSNext teams from playing in this. They ought to permit it, but they don’t.

I agree. I probably could have written that clearer but, yes, MLS Next prohibits it and I think it's BS. And I was saying that MLS Next made this decision like 2 days before rosters were locked.

OK, I'm heavily leaning towards crazy now. : )

do you think there might be a correlation between the number of players and size of the club and success in the state cup?
Anonymous
i wish ECNL clubs entered their top teams in the state cup. I have no problem with Arlington doing it, but if everyone did the same it would have been a much better competition.
Anonymous
There should be presidents cup, State cup, and then something higher than that. Super State cup.

This really didn't make any difference as the MLS Next clubs only had two age groups in MLS Next in any case and entered their top teams in all other age groups. Also - McLean (ECNL) entered their top teams in state cup too. The only clubs of note on the boys side that were missing were Richmond and VDA.

I think you oughta worry more about the fact that many other elite teams u13 up could not or did not play in the tourney, so although the teams should undoubtedly proud of their success, they shouldn’t walk away from thinking this makes them a top team in this area. Of course you can think whatever you want, and will, regardless of facts.

I keep hearing all about these coaches. I have simply not seen any of that. Pretty mediocre style of play with very little evidence of confident or creative decisionmaking on any part of the field. You cannot put that entirely on coaches. But they don’t look like they are doing much to add any value over there.

Which age group have you been watching?
