Every test is a little different, some having more questions than others. They also vary a little year to year, but this is what my breakdown was a few years ago
50 questions (10 do not count) Question correct out of 40 40 600 39 578 38 558 37 537 36 518 35 501 34 489 33 474 32 462 31 452 30 446 29 440 28 434 27 428 26 423 25 418 23 414 22 410 21 406 20 402 19 398 18 394 17 388 16 383 15 378 14 372 13 367 12 362 11 356 10 350 9 344 8 337 7 328 |
| This is great info. I always wondered how the scoring worked |
Ah...thanks for the info... I have no idea how many he got wrong, only that the highest score is 600, and 537 seems far away from 600... And 37 out of 40 correct is 92.5% - by FCPS standard that is a B? (A is 93-100) |
Is an SOL score of 537 actually 37/40 (92.5%) or 37/50 (74%)? I'm asking because of the other post:
|
I think the 10 (these are testing questions) are just excluded from scoring, regardless the answers are correct or wrong. A student can get all the 10 correct, but that does not matter. |
No SOL scores are posted for my student at Kilmer. |
An SOL scored is not a grade and it does not count towards your child’s overall grade for Algebra. Having said that. If your child did receive a 92.5(as actual grade for any subject) it would be considered an A( the0.5) would allow for it to round UP from an A-(92) to an A(92.5). Letter grade is separate from GPA though. |
I don't have them yet for Thoreau either. |

I received the raw score from DC's teacher. 555 for math 7, and 600 for English 6, She's a 6 grader and so disappointed about math. In the past she received higher scores for math, so I am wondering if her being tracked in the advanced math or learning virtual made it tougher for her.
We live in a different county so math tracking and handling of SOL scores may be different from FCPS. |
I don’t get this at all. Comments like this make me feel incredibly sorry for children. Your child got a PERFECT score on Reading SOL and you are “disappointed” that your 11-12 year old got 2-3 questions wrong on a middle school level math SOL? What exactly ever makes you a proud parent? |
Please tell me this is a joke. |
My Dc is at Kilmer and SOL grade was posted around June 1st. DC is.a 7th grader and in Algebra I. |
Pp here. I am not disappointed. I was relieved that she learned well, despite this year being tough. However, my kid is disappointed. She thought she was getting a similar score from previous years. She expects more from herself. I don’t know if I was proud of her when she got good test scores in the past, though. math and reading comes pretty easily for her. She pays attention during class and she does her homework, but she doesn’t do anything extra. I told her I was really proud of her when she tried out for a school athletic team, and stuck with it with a good attitude despite being pretty much the worst player of the team. (Of course I didn’t tell her the worst player part.) |
