To the people who think that walking cannot make an impact on your weight

Anonymous
I've never been motivated to exercise as an end in itself, and I have always seen that how much I walk has a direct impact on my weight. That's why I have a dog, because it forces me to walk, and for several years I purposely did not learn where the employee parking was where I worked (parking was leased through other businesses) so I wouldn't be tempted to drive instead of walking to work. When I have had injuries that kept me from walking, the effect is pretty obvious after a couple of months.

I do 20k a day too. Its not easy but I find myself running in place out waking in place a lot to make up steps. I know i look like the weirdest person in the world sometimes but it has helped with my covid weight. When possible I do just go on a lot of long walks 1-2 miles per, but that's not always possible with a job and young children. But i generally aim for like 1k per hour after getting up and seeing where I am at say 3pm and try to get on track for the 20k for the day.

20K steps is a lot of burned calories.
You probably didn't need to do any calorie restriction and IF.

Plus 3. OP you sounds nuts and your teens are right. You were already at “the low end” of your ideal weight and gained 10 lbs. So that put you what, in the middle of your ideal weight range? You can’t live like that so now you only eat in a 6 hr window during the day from 2-8pm (what is that?? A snack and dinner?) and spend hours walking around the block. Weird

Walking definitely works. I know because I’ve had three periods of my life where I haven’t been able to walk much due to injuries and I pack on weight like crazy. Typically I walk more than 5 miles per day if I’m not injured.

Last summer I walked that much. This winter I walked 10K, but in really cold climate.
I did not gain weight and last summer I was losing weight regardless of what I ate.
Now I am not walking much at all and watching and counting calories and I am not losing any weight.
Walking helps and it helps a lot.
Anyone denying that is delusional and lazy.

Every mom of teens should take up walking during this time, and las year!
It was how I stayed relatively less crazy!

Yes! Rhe walks are for mental health, cutting calories or IF is for physical health.

It was the diet, not the walking.

This.

Yes, this. I lost 12 pounds since feb 1 doing the same, but typically walk 500-5,000 steps a day.

Congratulations, though, op.

There’s zero chance I could find time to walk 20,000 steps in a day so I focus on calories

If you were at the lower end of healthy BMI for most of your adult life and you carried the extra weight for less than a year, you don’t surprise me. You also are not a typical weightloss story. Most people carry more extra weight longer.

Sorry you had to be less skinny for a few months. Glad you are better now.

That other post ridiculing walkers made me so mad. I’m overweight and have been trying hard to lose it. Doing 2 walks a day, about a mile each, which includes some hills and I also do bursts of speedier walking to get my heart rate up. It’s nothing impressive but people have to start somewhere. And then I see a post dedicated to making walkers feel stupid? What is the point? Why kick people when they’re down? This approach has never made anyone get healthier quicker.

As for OP, I can’t seem to get past 8k steps a day. I don’t get how you have time for 20k!
