I switched last month to this one from Cerave. Feels similar to Elta MD but doesn’t clog my pores as much: https://www.cerave.com/skincare/moisturizers/ultra-light-moisturizing-lotion-spf-30

The cerave is all chemical sunscreen which I don’t think gives as boards coverage. Plus be careful putting on your neck bc the chemical ones can stain clothes (I think it is the avobenzone).

I’ve had an esthetician at a med spa and a dermatologist recommend this to me. I use it because it’s supposed to help with breakouts, in addition to being a sunscreen.

I just switched to this from Cere Ve. This is so much lighter. The Cere Ve dried my face out. We will see if the Elta keeps my face from burning.

Just bought the TINTED Elta from my dermatologist. It’s almost sheer with a small amount of color that evens out my complexion. New favorite!

Ooh I'll have to try this one. I have the Clear version, I also have one from Paula's choice that is slightly tinted for days where I want that. I didn't realize Elta had one too.

For the OP, Dermstore occasionally has Elta MD on sale.

I really like that EltaMD is SPF 40+ though.

PP here. Totally get it. I'm a ginger using tretinoin and so far, I feel like the Cerave even though just SPF 30 somehow gives me better protection. EltaMD, I would still get pink and feel a bit burnt. So far, with the Cerave I'm my normal ghostly pale with no freckle increase. It does feel a tad bit thicker, which may be why? We'll see, of course, how that goes into summer!

Pay attention to this post. EltaMD feels great but the UVA protection just isn’t there. Buy European or Australian sunscreen with proper UVA protection measurement, with an esthetically pleasing formula.

Do you have suggestions?

If you are very fair, the tinted is way too dark. I wish they made a lighter version.

Huh? Why wouldn't it have enough UVA protection? It is labeled broad-spectrum protection and has a seal/endorsement from The Skin Cancer Foundation on it. Plenty of derms recommend it too. Not saying you are wrong, just what leads you to say it isn't "enough" protection. Im fair skinned and spend a lot of time at the beach (though northern state) and have never had issues burning on my face when using as re-applying as needed. How do you know if a sunscreen has enough protection?

I'd like to know this too. I do tend to switch to La Roche Posay for the beach/pool because it's supposed to be more water resistant, but otherwise I wear Elta MD and don't get burned either.

Agree, before buying the clear I tried tinted and I looked orange. I’m pale but not extremely.

I use a different sunscreen (Australian gold, mineral) and stretch out the too dark tinted one by mixing with the regular one that leaves me ghost white.

I have a terrible reaction to the sunscreens with Avobenzone. It's so difficult finding a sunscreen that works for me and I've had malignant melanoma and several pre-cancerous spots.

Cerave is out. I've never used the Elta product and wonder if I'll react to the Octinoxate in it.

I’m not sure which chemical sunscreen I have a reaction to specifically, but I’d get tiny little whiteheads all over my T-zone from it. So gross! I do not have that issue with the Elta clear. Before I found that I was not great with sunscreen and have had a carcinoma and a couple other precancerous spots removed as well.

NP here and wanted to mention that Elta MD Elements is a physical only sunscreen and has been wonderful for my sensitive dry skin. In case someone wanted a non chemical option. It spreads like a dream, better than LaRoche Posay I used in the past
