50+ pound weight loss effects

Anonymous
I lost about 40 pounds. I'm not sure I look older, just different. My eyes look bigger, and my cheekbones are more prominent, I lost the fun jowls I was getting, but I look a little haggard and it is more obvious that I have a gigantic head. So, not particularly attractive at any weight, but it is what it is. I mostly lost weight because I'm approaching 50 and figured I should get rid of it before that milestone.

I am currently the same weight I was at 18 but I definitely do not have my 18 year old body. This is disappointing, but not unexpected, lol.

Are you ladies sure you’re assessing yourselves objectively?

I think for most middle aged people some fat in the face makes you look younger.

I lost 50 lbs and had excess skin. My boobs were completely deflated and my stomach had sagging skin. My skin on my inner thighs sags and my butt is flabby. I look better in clothes and have a smaller waist. I look terrible naked.

Did you lose the weight quickly?

Is it core strength or just less pressure on your organs?

I think it’s just less pressure on my organs. I lost weight by cutting calories during COVID, not by exercising more. I used to do Pilates before, and haven’t made it back to the gym since COVID hit.

Try weight/strength training. It’s exactly what you need to tighten up! 3 times a week minimum, 20 minutes a day minimum. 6 months and you will be much happier with your body.

Do you count pregnancy weight loss? I gained over 50 and lost it.

The major thing was the stretched out belly skin. Soooo gross.

After my new pregnancy (another 50 pounds), I only lost 30. I think a little belly fat (not the 20 pounds I have now) is better than saggy skin. I'd love to lose another 10-15. But it's been 7 years so...

I've lost 70 and still have 20 to lose. I'm 53. I did have loose skin on my upper arms, but the last 20 pounds I lost took 7 months, and I think that time of very slow weight loss allowed the skin to bounce back a bit. I have hardly any loose skin on my arms now.

It remains to be seen if my belly will have loose skin. I have that c section shelf anyway, and I don't see myself losing enough to lose that.

My boobs are fine.
My butt is fine (but that's exercise).

I do get cold more easily.
I still get my period like clockwork.
I do have more wrinkles on my face, but the fact it has slimmed down, I think, counteracts the new wrinkles.

My neck was flabby for a bit, but that has tightened up too. Again, maybe because of the very slow weight loss these past 7 months.

The good:
blood pressure is great
I don't get an ache in my lower back when I walk for exercise.
My ankles don't hurt after 10,000 steps. They don't hurt after 20,000 steps.
My resting heart rate fell about 15 beats a minute.
I have been taking a cardio/strength class too. So my muscles are stronger. I have much better balance.

I'd like to say I sleep better, but I don't really.

This is interesting. I personally look older when I’m heavier. My wrinkles look deeper for some reason
