50+ pound weight loss effects

Anonymous
Some have been great and some aren't so great.

Great - lowered blood sugar, which was primary goal.

Mixed - My menstrual cycle has been very off my whole life, I believe from being overweight. It is finally turning into a regular cycle now which I assume is a good thing. I am also not used to getting a period every month so I don't really love that.

Bad - Hair loss. I have lost a lot of hair and it sucks. Not sure when this will get better but hopefully it will!

Curious to hear about the experience of others

I've lost nearly 80 lbs. over the past 3 years. The effects have been mostly positive. However, I do notice that my butt hurts when I sit for too long. I have gotten so thin that I can feel my tailbone. Another thing I've noticed, is the crepe look of my neck, and that I get cold faster.

I look great in my clothes and more energy so it's worth all of the above.

I'm curious as to how weight loss would cause hair loss.

IIRC, fat cells store hormones so as they get depleted they release hormones.

I think because weight loss stresses your body. Your body is getting fewer calories than it want every day, so it is under stress. A lot of people lose hair when they are under either physical or emotional stress.

Get cold easily.
Fat makes me look younger.

I have also had a lot of hair loss from losing weight. I started using biotin gummies and they seem to be helping!

Hair loss is common among people who get weight loss surgery FYI.

Biotin gave me horrific acne.

How fat do you need to be to look younger? Are you talking 10 pounds or 200?

The getting cold easier thing is for real. I am probably down about 55 pounds at this point, and still working at it. I am a 40 year old man though, so I imagine the impacts are different.

DP. Always cold. Same on that tailbone issue. Crepey neck, which I really hate. Definitely looked younger when I was fatter. That was a huge heart breaker. I mean I cry over it. I look at least 10 years older (I think). DH says only about 4

This is disappointing to hear. I’ve seen so many before/after pictures on Facebook and Reddit etc. where the after more slender version looks much younger.

Are you ladies sure you’re assessing yourselves objectively?

I posted right above. I look absolutely great in clothes, but my face looks older. I feel like I look like I lost the weight due to illness. Not from the exercise and diet changes.

Unexpected: alleviated leaking issues I’ve had for years postpartum. Who knew?
