MCPS message on parent-organized graduation/prom parties

30% of MoCo has been fully vaccinated. It isn’t spring 2020 anymore.

As long as people are careful, it’s entirely possible to have safe graduation events.

MCPS could care less about this class of seniors and have done nothing for them all year, why would we expect them to start now? We have 2 HS kids, 10th and 12th, both are vaccinated. This should be a non-issue for both graduation and prom, but since MCPS is such a sh*tshow, they do nothing.

I would not only let my kids go, but I would help plan if my kids were this age. Easily can offer outdoor options. Easily show vac cards. Easy to make something a little special.

Something. Anything.

They will all be going to Senior Beach Week too. These seniors have been through enough.

They went to beach week last year too.

Time to move on

Time for you to move to a less ridiculous county

Housing prices are great in Mississippi and Alabama. You could really find your tribe.

As a parent of a5th grader, I could literally not care less about their opinion on a group of families choosing to hold their own in-person outdoor graduation ceremony.

This is where MCPS needs to take a step back from the lecturing. They have chosen to not allow in person events or visitors on campus. I disagree with that decision, but they have that authority over their buildings.

They can also STFU about what people do in their free time on their private property.

As a parent of a 6th grader who did not get a 5th grade promotion last year, 5th grade promotion doesn't matter one bit.

I feel bad for the high schoolers but understand the rationale.

I was just about to say the same.

But yes, it stinks for high schoolers, but 5th grade?? Give me a break! Your 5th grader won't have ' a graduation' but look at the bright side: you had an entire year to keep him in his room and bake cookies together!

+1 My sixth grader missed out on a lot of end of elementary school activities. I am glad they have found a way to make high school graduations work this year.

Been through enough? Come on, they're resilient. They'll be fine.

If they are fully vaccinated and it’s outside what is the problem?

Wow most selfish and bad parenting.

Kids are resilient they don't need these things their silly parents do.

Americans and their "freedoms" idiots. Leave the USA if you are not happy with the schools, Biden, "wokeness" "cancel culture". Get dictionaries people your lack of intelligence is showing.

Without ultra-conservatives we would have been out already, back in schools, but you idiots put on socks daily and wouldn't wear a little mask. OMG>

80% of people over age 65 have had at least one vaccine and 62% of them are fully vaccinated. No one is going to kill grandma and grandpa.

Actually, people like you have been screaming that schools isn't responsible for children's social lives. That's a parental responsibility. So frankly, MCPSS has not right to weigh in on parental planned events replacing the socialization that students were deprived of for more than a year.

My own kid does not care, but for those who do, as long as any gathering is consistent with public health guidance, I think MCPSS is overstepping.
