Thanks this is helpful. I think the game has changed lately due to bag shortages. Also I think the expectation is that you stick with one store. I want a b25 precisely for this reason. It won’t be heavy and then I’d like a k25. I am a totes person so the birkin would work for me. |
PP you replied to. Oh, I'm sure the quality is impeccable. But like a PP said, shouldn't it also be about whether it suits you? For PP it was a little heavy and unwieldy. Have you tried it on, OP? Or is simply owning such a bag sufficient to make you happy, and you're not that fussed about practical aspects? I practically never buy because I am looking for the trifecta of quality/fitness for me/price, and I'm very picky. It's easy to get 2 out of 3, but I don't buy unless I get 3 out of 3. |
| Once the Kardashians and real housewives start flaunting an item it's hard for me to view it as elegant. |
That’s a given. Having collected bags for twenty years I look for comfort and durability and weight and how it looks on me foremost. I am very picky as well. I just didn’t like the idea of spending over 10k for a bag but after trying on my sil’s birkins and trying the different sizes she owns I am certain the bag will work for me. I am not seeing this level of quality anymore for Chanel. BV has gotten too trendy and so has Louis Vuitton. I don’t like monogram bags anyway or things with huge logos either. |
I don’t see it that way. I see many elegant ladies carrying the bag and so it doesn’t bother me that the kardashians have it. I’m sure they have Benzs and bmws but that doesn’t turn me off from having them. |
Investing in private school education for your children is not at all comparable to investing in an “impeccable” quality birkin bag. It is a purse. A vessel in which to carry your keys and wallet. |
Even Rory got a Birkin bag from Logan! |
|
If you read what I wrote carefully you’d see that was not what I was doing. The comparison was to choices. |
She did indeed! That was such a good show. |
Do you have young children? I assume not. My sister got a YSL and while I think its a beautiful bag (and cheap compared to a Birkin) I cannot imagine carrying that around with my diaper bag or worse yet using it as my diaper bag! |

PP you quoted - thats fine - I was just wondering how you can carry a $25,000 bag and have your kids throw their snotty tissues and chewed up food in it. I guess for that price it has to be durable? |
| I have a really good friend who worked for the NYC store for years, & while I don't know how you can work your way up the waitlist, I trust her judgment. She (an artist who has her MFA) raves about the quality of Birkins. And she doesn't work for them anymore so no vested interest. Anyways, she has *wild* stories about how entitled & rude some customers were, as well as genuinely touching stories about some celebrities/regulars who made real connections with the staff. It *definitely* will help you to buy a Birkin to establish a connection with a SA you like. |
| If you have one, I will think you’re a sucker and probably a little stupid. |
