Does long, thick hair look unprofessional on a 40 yo woman?

I'll switch, OP. Here's my fine, breakable, hair. Thanks for your luxurious mane. I don't care if it's unprofessional

Me too! Here is my thinning hair which tends to grow little baby hairs along my hairline which stick straight up no matter how much I style it. Coming back from a meeting and finding that you had a little bit sticking straight up in the air like Alfalfa -- now that looks unprofessional.

Thick well-cared for hair is professional.

Anonymous wrote:It really depends on the individual and their overall look. My late 40s BFF has long, thick, straight hair and it is inoffensive, but totally blah. Other same-age friends with similar hair have thrown in a few long layers and done subtle highlights/balayage and it looks much more youthful.

Op here.

I’m worried that my hair looks blah...particularly on zoom.

Hits mid-chest.

Like this? Cut it, wear it in a twist, low pony, whatever. It really doesn't look good like this at all. Do you want people to notice your hair or your work?

In my opinion most hair looks best professionally a ittle shorter than what you are doing but this does not mean you have to go short. It's a matter of degree...I know she wears wigs (and she's one if the most beautiful women) but I like this length on Jaclyn Smith and think it can be professional as well.

That's a great look and lengths. This is not:

Sigh.

Yes.

It looks like this when I curl it. Sometimes I wear it straight.

I can’t do the long bangs-like cut on Jacklyn Smith. BTDT, looked awful.

How short should I go?

Who is another celeb I can use as a model for a stylist?

What do you think re: color? My hair is a bit like Jen Aniston’s color, but I haven’t had it highlighted since covid.

Just cut off 4-5” and add layers.

Which celeb has hair like that?

Diane Lane?

Amy Robach?

Not OP and my hair is much longer—waist length. But at work it’s always in a bun.

Do you look like Kelly Leoffler, the Georgia senator? If so, I would take it a few inches shorter

Just my opinion, but a couple inches or so below shoulder length is a good “long” length for the office. You can wear it down, pull it back, wear it half back and do all the things you can do with long hair, but it’s not getting into your chest, which I tend to agree is a few inches too long. Others may have different views.

Mermaid hair on middle age women is ridiculous.

I'm not clear on the point of the thread, OP. Are you looking for honest answers, or is having people respond that they find it distracting, unattractive, or otherwise unprofessional not acceptable to you?

those are hard styles if you have actually thick hair.

Okay. Then you (or OP) should post a description of what styles you can do, and people will weigh in. Is it anything other than straight and down over your shoulders/trunk, or curled and down over your shoulders/trunk? Is that it?

Not at all! My good friend has hair like that and it looks lovely and professional. I'd keep mine long if I could but alas, fine hair for me.

How do you style it?
