I worked in the Fenty administration. I absolutely believed he was corrupt. He made it seem like he was the great savior. Our great savior was Anthony Williams. |
and the cocaine... |
Williams and actually Vince Gray were great mayors. Fenty and Bowser horrid. |
Fenty was better than Bowser. He also took over schools and brough Rhee in. Say what you will about her, but remember that when you enjoy feeder rights at an OOB school. she did that. She was also the kick in the pants that DCPS needed. |

Okay, so it looks like the likely additional candidates are Mayor Bowser, Karl Racine and Robert White.
So, of Karl Racine and Robert White, who do we prefer. Better to unite behind one opponent of Mayor Bowser than split the support. |
| Should be likely candidates. |
Fenty was corrupt and Rhee was an absolute nightmare. Her theories about Ed reform have largely been discredited and she has protected child sex abusers like her husband. |
Catania wouldn't be bad! I'm surprised he didn't run against Bowser last time. |
| Agree on Racine. Seems sharp, detail oriented. |
I taught during that time. She instilled confidence in middle class parents, but a lot of her policies werent great. Testing, testing and more testing, very in the box thinking, and a LOT of Teach for America churn. The standards based work that had begun on DC Schools under the guy before her was actually pretty good (was it Vance?). It was thoughtful and methodical, and a lot of progress was already being made - though quietly.I agree she created some buzz and momentum, but charters were actually the kick in the pants DCPS needed |
| To add on, charter movement happened at same time as Rhee, and it fundamentally improved schooling options across the board in DC. I think she/Fenty basked in the glow of a more dynamic public education 'scene'- but at least 1/2 due to charters which they (and our dear Council at the time) literally had zero hand in. |
Good god, not Robert White. I thought we WANTED schools open? |
Karl Racine it is. |

Racine (D) said Friday that he will seek a third term in 2022 ... Racine, widely viewed as one of the strongest potential challengers to two-term Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D), ... told The Washington Post on Friday that he has not ruled out changing his plans and running for mayor instead." Don't know if he's said anything more recently. |

Racine spent his time pursuing Trump trying to raise his national profile and how many times did that work and what happened to his national profile?
Robert White is on education committee and is almost Nadeau like in his ability to create the illusion he's actually doing something. Verdict? It's Bowser's job until she no longer wants it. |
