ODP is one route, but they have to go all the way to the tippy top and be invited to a national camp. College soccer for women is still very important. If a girl is head and shoulders above the competition in a top 25 program — it’s likely she’ll be contacted.

ODP is not putting kids in YNT

ODP regional kids will get a look. I don't care what you think of ODP but any kid who makes the top regional level is a pretty good soccer player.

Pretty good soccer players do not get YNT call-up’s. ODP is not a path to YNT. It has not been for 15 years.

Find me the ODP kid that got a call up.. recently .. in the past 6 years.

Getting a look and getting a call up are two different things. You would need to go through individual player bios to determine if the players have had any ODP experience.

You can check you snobbery at the door because not participating in ODP isn't making a difference in your kid getting called up either. There are less than 30 spots per age group so ODP or no ODP one league or platform is not going to make a bit of difference.

It absolutely makes a difference. If you are playing ODP - you are not likely spending your time on the appropriate team to get a look a call up a chance.

At least one player on the Olympic qualifying roster did ODP--what does that say about ODP isn't putting people onto YNTs in the past 15 years?

What the hell are you talking about?

ODP is 1.5 hours a week and club obligations always take priority. Regional teams practice less.

ODP is good for kids who are not from major metropolitan centers where they have DA's or ECNL, etc. It gives them a chance to play with better players, different coaches, and philosophies. There are diamonds in the rough that do come through ODP sometimes. If you live near DC and your kid isn't on a top team it can still help. If they are already a starter on an ECNL team then it's not really worth doing.

I think the OP wants to know about YNT not ODP anyway....Let's get back to that.

Right, the pathway is this, your club coach reaches out to US Soccer, they send a scout to a game, and they either like what they see and get back to the club or they move on.

Literally any coach at any club can do this if they feel they have a special player worth being looked at.

White this is theoretically true, the reality is that the women’s national squad picks most players up after/during college. Very few will go from club to national team

He was on an ODP regional team that tied the Boys National Team once. Probably ODP's biggest claim to fame.

There were two from MD that were called up pre-pandemic.

True. Women's college soccer is a legitimate farm system for women's talent. Many foreign, female players have come to America for college then go back and play on their national teams. Men's college not so much.
