| I’ve seen recently many posts referencing YNT zoom call or something. What is the pathway these days to YNT for girls? Is it ODP and laddering up from there? National leagues like ECNL/GAL? Something else? |
ODP is one route, but they have to go all the way to the tippy top and be invited to a national camp. College soccer for women is still very important. If a girl is head and shoulders above the competition in a top 25 program — it’s likely she’ll be contacted. |
ODP is not putting kids in YNT |
|
USSF has their list of preferred clubs, the "usual suspects" who have a player or two every year that get recommended for it.
For example the TD or DOC at PDA is probably asked every year "who do you have this year". Same with the BIG clubs around the country. The ones that are 2-3x the size of Arlington or Loudon. |
| ODP is nothing more than a supplemental training program anymore. |
must be decent, who you know and have a lot of money. That should get you a zoom call. |
Hire Avatus Stone as a personal trainer and pay him a lot of money. Make friends with Diane Drake - Call her or "bump" into her at soccer game at Evergreen. Invite your coaches to your birthday party, Halloween Party, Beach house. This is how the girls on our team got invited!! |
For about the last 15 years, ODP has not been relevant for elite players. ECNL players were suggested not to go. DA prohibited participation. I would not waste my time at ODP. |
| You also need to be aware of the YNT cycles. Odd years and even years operate differently and for different purposes. But as was said above, YNT selections tend to come from the same clubs and coaches - US Soccer has never really figured out youth scouting. What US Soccer relies on is MLS/pro academies for the boys and College for the girls. |
Buy a starter full time spot in any of the ECNL teams. Team coach selects the players that are send to the YNT trainings. |

This is true. This is why it is so very important to make sure your coach is at your beach house, party, oh - host an exchange player too! If your coach has an exchange player/friend wanting to come live in america for a while and play soccer - be the FIRST one to volunteer. Make sure you have coffee and lunch every week with the coaches too. And go to their church! |
ODP regional kids will get a look. I don't care what you think of ODP but any kid who makes the top regional level is a pretty good soccer player. |
| No one is knocking ODP. What they are telling you is the reality of today's landscape. Elite players are mostly in ECNL/GA. Big clubs or strong teams produce the lion's share of invites. Look at the latest invites from the area (Bethesda (2), FCV (2), Pipeline (2) and Richmond (3)). Solar, PDA, Real Col, LAFC, Real SolCal, etc., have track records of delivering top talent. If you are not on an ECNL/GA team then ODP is your main option unless you are just a true baller and can put a hurting on the top kids from ECNL/GA clubs in the top bracket at JefCup, CASL or Bethesda Cup. |
Pretty good soccer players do not get YNT call-up’s. ODP is not a path to YNT. It has not been for 15 years. |
