I'm not sure a mortgage on a second home qualifies as "travel" expenses. |
| About 10 percent of $400k, pre-covid. |
3-5% of 230k |
| 5% for us, too. |
Second home is paid for. Our only real expense is our mortgage in primary residents which is 1200/month |
| Just shy of 10% this year 2021. In normal years probably like 4%. |
| About 10% in normal years. |
| 20-25k for four people, HHI 290k |
| up to 15% for once in a lifetime journeys, 5-8% in other years |
Are you retired? How do you spend $125-150k on travel and also spend time at your beach house? |
|
3.5%
All figures based on gross HHI and 2020 to keep the math easy. We traveled before and during the pandemic so spending wasn’t that off. Net figures would certainly be different because we live in NYC and are taxed out the wazoo (and rent is 17% of gross HHI, ugh). |
No, early 40s. We spend summer at beach house. We typically fly first class, stay in higher end hotels/resorts (two rooms, one for us one for kid). Do a lot of experiences/private tours/private dinners. |

Reviving this thread. HHI is $1M and we spend about $40k/year on travel, or 4% of gross income, for a family of five. There’s a topic on the money board now where I commented and someone said something like “live a little” and I’d love to do more but also want to save sufficiently and live well day to day.
Curious about your travel budget relative to HHI. |

3%. HHI 400K
This year more like 5%-6%, going to Europe for two weeks with the kids. |
| HHI is $700k and we spend about 5% on vacation travel. |
