Is this in middle school? Some of those families are very social and traveling as if there is no pandemic.

Upper School. Apparently there were several cases after President's Day weekend.

Message from HOS indicated that the decision to close was not necessarily SR's (it was taken "on advice of Dr. Gayles" = MoCo Health Commissioner)

Smart way to pass the buck. But probably also indicates that there was contact tracing that found transmission within the school community.

It wasn’t “passing the buck.” It was 13 positive cases. I can never understand the constant snark on this board.

It certainly puts the decision to close on the advice of the county and not themselves. In case there are parents who disagreed with the decision, it allows them to point to the county authority as the reason although in reality it was discretionary. I personally think it was the right decision and it shouldn't have required hiding behind the county to make it, but considering the context it was probably necessary to provide a more authoritative basis for the decision.

The original email said "the Health Department has advised".

There's a difference between advised and mandated.

Either way, it's a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

13 cases?! What grades? Was it community spread?

Yes, it was community spread NOT from school. Only one student had even been on campus and did it not spread from her at all.

When I say community spread I mean outside of school at private event/s.

Catholic schools are generally notified sooner. Friday at 4 pm is usually the norm.
Waitlisted is very common a lot of schools.

The cases occurred off campus at social events over the President's Day weekend. Not the first time something like this has happened this year. Suspect it won't be the last either.

Not a ding against SR the school, as this is ALL on the parents, but the other way to look at this is that the school community DID spread it among themselves, just not on school campus or on a school event. If 13 kids at a single school tested positive from a single event, clearly there is no respect for social distancing measures and this is why it's hard to get schools to open and stay open.

Ugh. As an alumna I’m really disappointed to hear this. This is not what a social awareness that impels to action is supposed to look like.

It does seem rather pointless to insist on appropriate protocols at school, when they're being ignored by a small percentage of students outside the school.

Unfortunately there was no accountability following this, and no consequences. The vast majority of students who are diligent about their exposure outside school were rightly furious about having to pay the price with the rest of the Upper School for the actions of a few.
