Leaving aside the timing of her divorce, the statement is still untrue. She and first husband were big supporters of Joe’s political campaign and spent time with him then. That part is not up for dispute

I'll just say that for all of my friends who were divorced, in hindsight they don't make a distinction about the physically separated vs their legally divorced timeline. When they say "when I was first divorced..." They pretty much universally mean the split when they move out etc

+1 I didn't start dating during my separation, but I don't think anyone in 2021 things it is "cheating" to date after you have legally separated but before the divorce is final.

She completed her undergraduate education in fits and starts. She met her first husband right after starting college. After they got married, she transferred colleges, but later took time off to model and earn some money while separating from her first husband in 1974. She then went back to school, met Joe in early 1975, and finished her degree later that year. Overall I think it took her about six years to earn her undergrad degree.

The divorce was finalized after she met Joe, but they were already separated. Not everyone defines the end of their marriage as the date of the divorce, it's very common to associate it with when you separate. So it is technically true that she was still married when she met Joe, but the marriage was already over and in the process of being legally dissolved.
