Please tell me that you're kidding, correct? What would justify that cost? Can you break it down?

We had a lot of air travels to NC, SC. and we stayed at 5*.

No wonder you couldn’t afford the gas money and suv for dcu id sessions.

McLean ECNL older age. I would say it varies from 5K-7K depending on the number of showcases and if you fly along with the kid. 5K would include regular season, hotels, travel a few tournaments and one showcase. Each additional showcase can add another $1000ish.

We must be bumming it. We only paid about $3500

As a parent of a player that has the opportunity to play at that level, I'm really wondering if there is an actual return on that investment and if it's worth the higher cost. For players that don't get scholarship or even offer to play in college, is it worth it?

I have a 429 for my kid with 250k in it. Who needs a scholarship. It’s an investment in structure, fun and the search for excellence. People must be crazy to expect a true ROI beyond that.

Not sure they’re the crazy ones.

Then you understand neither the impact of appropriately invested money nor the importance of reasonable expectations. It’s ok. There are plenty of you out there, and that makes it easier for the rest of us to keep on doing well.

No 5* but lots of travel. And you pay for the coaches travel. Plus as a parent, if you want to go and see them play- that is additional and your kid doesn’t stay with you. Then there is the showcases. It is a lot. Maybe it has only been 8k for the player but at least 1-2k for the parents to watch them play.

I don’t expect to get a return on the investment. Any financial advisor would tell you this is a terrible concept and it should just be looked at as a sunk cost.

Agree with lots of this. My DD is probably good enough to play some D1 schools and easily could do a bunch of D3 schools. She is just a 9th grader now so doing this for fun. If she still loves soccer in 2 years and wants to continue beyond HS we will look for a school that is a good fit both academically and soccer-wise. I am guessing any financials coming our way will be minimal as she is a good student so we would push for her to go to a better academic school. I love watching her play because she is so happy playing. Because of COVID we have not yet had to deal with all the showcases the older teams go to.

This is total BS. No way it is 8k for the player and 1-2k for the parents to travel? Games are in Richmond, NC and SC. Driving to NC or SC a couple of times per year doesn’t cost that much. Maybe they stay at the Four Seasons and bring their private chef and trainer with them.
