RMSC Tryouts

Tollefson, ASA, and NCAP seem like good programs to me.

I would contact each program directly with your kids’ times.

NCAP has a great program for younger kids. I don't know if they will have openings this year though.

Not OP, but my 9 yo is looking for a club team to join for the upcoming season too. If the clubs are taking new kids I would think there would be slots in the 8-10 groups because they didn’t take any new swimmers last year and there would be kids moving up to the next age group. Am I missing something that would make it harder for kids in that age group to join this year?

There is generally not an 8-10 age group. Most groups have 8 and under and then 9/10 and then 11 and up (though fast kids move early).

Hydroponic Tiburones are great. I have one kid in RMSc and one in Tiburones (she didn’t make RMSC when she tried out two years ago). Id switch them both to Tiburones in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for the money.

If you're looking at other clubs, Tollefson is having tryouts this Tuesday.

Limits on number of swimmers/lane.

It’s always hard as too many kids trying out but they have reduced schedules and kids in lane.

My feeling is that this year there is going to be more space than normal at the youngest age group.

To clarify, my thinking is that with very few little guys getting on the team last year, 8s moving up this summer, and increased swimmers per lane and pool availability, they are now looking to recruit to increase revenue.

NCAP doesn’t appear to have an 8 and under group, their youngest competitive team is 8-10. Are these under 8 swimmers people are mentioning participating in the non competitive learn to swim type programs through these clubs?

I hope not as it’s very risky with unvaccinated kids.

What medical expert is defining children participating in club swim as very risky?! It’s good that participating in club swim isn’t mandatory so that parents that are concerned don’t have to sign their kids up. Your risk assessment doesn’t get to control the risk assessments of everyone else, particularly when it doesn’t align with the guidance of medical experts.

Maybe NCAP doesn’t take littler kids, though I believe they take 7 year olds with summer swim experience if they are good enough. All the teams I know have a competition 8 and under age group - I see them at meets all the time.

The ASA 8 and unders competition team is called Age Group 1. (AG 1)

I dint know about the team since covid, but AG1 used to practice 2-3 times/week with a meet almost every month.

They do take younger kids. Just send an email to the coach.

NCAP has 8 and under, at least at the AU location. It is called Bronze 2.

It is still the same

It looks like it varies by location. The GP location has 8-10 as its lowest age group, also called Bronze 2.
