Really? Because teachers were playing along. Pretty awful to mislead kids like this. They’ve been gearing up for weeks at this point. WTU should have decided this at least two weeks ago. What jerks. And I’m someone who gave up on the idea of in person school until next year, and was fine with it!

Huh No one has been gearing up? Also the WTU has stated from the beginning they were against in person for term 3. Why in heaven's name are you surprised and outraged about?

My kids classes have been rearranged. The in school kids have been assigned. My kid had introductory meetings with her new teachers and classmates. We have a new schedule. Yes, they were gearing up.

+1 my child had multiple days of instruction cancelled for the teacher to prepare for in-person. My school was absolutely preparing for it. I still think feb 1 will happen, but admit I’m an unrelenting optimist and could very much be wrong.

The snow may put a damper on it happening which is unfortunate. My kid’s school has also lost instruction over this IPL rearrangement with more transition days planned next week. The teachers have all worked to mentally prepare the kids to go back to school. Feels like such a bait and switch.

+1 and I would add my kids teachers were enthusiastically playing along. Nevertheless I prepared my kid for the possibility it may not happen. But to say the kids will feel mislead by the teachers is absolutely correct.

Lol wtf, not the case at all. Do you guys know something teachers don’t? As far as I know feb 1 is happening, unless there’s snow but unless you know of some apocalypse coming....the next day is February 2nd.

The WTU has BEEN against reopening, that shouldn’t be a surprise. That doesn’t mean it will be able to happen. If only.

Did an actual decision come from arbitration yet?

The mayor will force teachers back. This will be viewed as a strike. The union is using the Chicago playbook what’s happening right now. Bowser will play hardball, maybe deactivate school a cout for teachers so they can’t teach virtually. Teachers work for the mayor she had the power to fine the union and discipline teachers.

According to the email posted here, no decision. But union is refusing to come back in person regardless.

This is a bad play for WTU. I'm pro union in general, but you have to play your cards better than this. You're going to lose what little parental support you have left.

The union pres also said multiple times in the call that she wouldn’t call a strike unless she gets a vote from all the teachers, not just the 10% in the call.

It’s odd that parents on this forum think this. They have tons of parent support, just less from white ones or the more wealthy ones.

This is going to be terrible for those people who are expected to return in person. It’s equivalent to not showing up on the first day of school . The people assigned to virtual had nothing to lose or gain by voting but helped seal the fate for the others. I feel bad for my fellow union members, Liz Davis spends too much time on her soapbox and doesn’t adequately inform the membership.

I'm not white and certainly not wealthy and worry all our fellow black and brown parents and kids. I don't know anyone who is supporting the way the WTU is handling this. They need new leadership or something. Seems like poor strategy and worse messaging. The mayor is doing a terrible job as well, but I expect that. I hoped better from the teachers.

Edited to add, it might not have made a difference, but she should have clearly stated what that this will be treated as a no show. You don’t just get to decide where you’re going to work and not expect your boss to act.

Is this for real? Why didn’t they message this better? Our school has spent so much time and effort to get ready. We lost a full day of instruction. Numerous parent meetings and more lost work. Our schools is like a sterile hospital, but cool none of this is now enough.

Also, what I find most frustrating is that the WTU STILL hasn’t publicized now DCPS is supposed to have breached the MOA.
