I'm a teacher - and I want to go back!

However, I am afraid to speak up because I know I will be attacked by other teachers.

There are many of us who want to go back and feel safe going back. We understand that with appropriate mitigation strategies, we can open schools.

But if we speak up, we are bullied and attacked. Some of us have tried to speak up on social media - but we end up getting our posts deleted and reported (on school and educator pages) and banned from groups.

We want parents to know - there are many of us out there! But we are being silenced by a very vocal minority.

Some of these teachers want to stay out of school forever. Now saying they won't go back, even after being vaccinated. This has been a difficult 10 months, we need to get back to school.

No one at my school has bullied anyone. Most of us want to go back. We are just as pissed as parents. A lot of us ARE parents. But what the community can’t seem to wrap its head around is that FCPS leadership is full of morons who have no idea what they are doing. They overpromise and under deliver, and teachers become the scapegoats. Our school can’t figure out how to get the kids back in 6ft apart even 2 days a week. We are way over capacity and it’s gotten worse each year. Brabrand has just told our principals to figure it out, and every time they do, FCPS screws it up with a new plan.

They’ve done a heck of a job at passing the buck though.

I am wondering if you are really a teacher or maybe questioning your friends if you are getting bullied on social media. Are you posting to public sites? Those are fair game.

I’m a teacher and know a lot who want to go back. I know some who feel it’s not safe. Most of us at my school are at least occasionally teaching from the building and meeting in person now. It’s too hard to do it all from home.

So many of us are also parents. Of course we want schools to open. Teen DS is driving us crazy and needs to go back for DH and my sanity.

I bet you will miss the freedoms you have now, you don’t have to wait till specials, lunch or end of the school to use the bathroom...

I want to go back, too, but I would like to be vaccinated first. I mean, who wouldn’t? Well, it will happen soon. Someday this will all be a bad bad memory.

Neither my spouse or I are teachers but we’ve both noticed that Brabrand likes to hand off blame. First it was staffing for hybrid. Now we are doing concurrent. Then, it was health metrics. Then, the board. It’s always everyone but the person who makes 300k to solve the problem. My kids school has trailers and most people wanted F2F in the summer, I don’t see how the spacing works out.

That’s a weird comment.

I’m a HS teacher. I don’t have specials. Sure it was fun to teach in sweats for a few weeks, but I hate DL. It is really hard to connect with kids and the best parts of my job - the casual conversation between periods, when they come to my room for lunch, seeing them at their sports practices and games - are fine for now.

Yeah, I am starting to get depressed. It isn’t good.

I'm an FCPS teacher, ES. I have emailed the school board. I am not one who says that DL is going well. It's "ok" for some. Definitely not great. In the summer I said I was willing to go back with the hybrid plan. I am concerned about concurrent teaching, but I'll do my best with it and I think it would be at least a step forward. The benefits of in-person outweigh the risks. We can't eliminate all risk, but we can reduce it.

I'm disappointed my vaccination appointment was canceled, but I'm still pretty confident that I'll get dose number one before the end of February. I'm willing to work F2F, but of course vaccination would be preferred.

I meant gone for now. Definitely not fine. And yes to the PP who said they are starting to get depressed - I feel like nothing I am doing this year matters for my students. Doing the best I can to help them socialize and feel like somebody’s listening, but definitely don’t feel like I’m making a difference academically.

How young are you and which district are you in?

Ironically I know very few teacher who feel it’s safe RIGHT NOW.

COVID-19 will either kill you or debilitate you or you’ll be fine. But no one knows! And the new strains are a mess. So, if you are a reasonable person, it must be that every person
should choose for themselves. Including and especially the teachers. So, step away MAGA and Spring Valley. For any questions, refer to Rogen v Cruz

WTF is this Rohan v Cruz everywhere. There in a Twitter wat. Cruz is having his ass handed to him, which he deserves. And this has zero to do with teaching.

Unless you are on a Fairfax County VA Education Board implying it is full of MAGAs, in which case you are stark raving mad. Seriously dude. DCUM public schools is not MAGA central. It’s just a place with a bunch of moms who are very worried about their kids.

Major pick me energy here OP. What I want doesn’t factor jnto school opening and safety. I have always said I’ll go hybrid. I will when they tell me. I have done my best at DL. I got the first round of the vaccine. I am not advocating my wants when it comes to things other people have to go through as well. I want safety for my students too. We don’t need to sit here and beg the DCUM parents to like us .

You are responding to a troll. I wish you were all better at recognizing them this long into the ordeal.
