I am a teacher in the public school system and I want to go back.
However, I am afraid to speak up because I know I will be attacked by other teachers. There are many of us who want to go back and feel safe going back. We understand that with appropriate mitigation strategies, we can open schools. But if we speak up, we are bullied and attacked. Some of us have tried to speak up on social media - but we end up getting our posts deleted and reported (on school and educator pages) and banned from groups. We want parents to know - there are many of us out there! But we are being silenced by a very vocal minority. Some of these teachers want to stay out of school forever. Now saying they won't go back, even after being vaccinated. This has been a difficult 10 months, we need to get back to school. |
That's the feeling I'm getting from my kid's teachers |
AMEM. APS teacher here and these are my thoughts exactly. I tried to speak up in the beginning but the bullying and attacking is real. I feel so badly for my students and can’t believe how some of my coworkers are acting. |
So true! |
I feel badly for teachers on that front, because they are getting lumped in with the FEA crowd. But, what does that say to the high school kids you tell to avoid peer pressure, to cope with cyber bullying, to report cheating, to not be a lemming? If you, a grown ass adult can’t stand up to your peers, how do you expect HS kids to do it?
It’s an honest question. If this is where adults are, what are modeling for teens? |
It's kind of ironic that we're having discussion about cyberbullying on DCUM. |
OP, I am a parent and I respect and value our teachers and want them safe while going in. My kids will wear masks, we won’t go out about town, etc. I still believe, we are in this together. |
Thank you op.
Could you get a job at an independent school? |
There is nothing wrong with being quiet to avoid bullying. Sheesh. OP has enough on their plate, they don’t need to have the added burden of “hero.” |
Teacher here. You have every right to share your opinion. I agree with you that no one should be attacking you. The more power to you for feeling comfortable going back. The majority of teachers want to go back once vaccinated. Literally everyone at my school has said this. I do not feel safe with our current numbers and not being vaccinated. I would have been ok with our numbers in early fall. Now not so much. I have personal stuff going on as well that effects my feelings though. The small minority saying DL forever is a minority. |
I wouldn’t post on social media but teachers that want to go back should email the school board. They need to hear more from teachers like you. |
Do you happen to have a sense for what percentage of APs teachers feel the same way? |
One of the first things I told my daughter when a boy was annoying her in class was to avoid him. If avoidance didn't work then talk to a teacher. All the teachers are doing is avoiding confrontation. Even as parents we teach our kids that technique. |
NP I teach preK-3 |
+1 I would definitely write to your school board members. Let them know this situation is unacceptable come fall at the latest. |
