you can move them up if there are less than 18 players on the A team.
Doubtful they could be starters for the A team - if they were they would completely unbalance the game and it would be obvious to any observer, their parents would openly complain if it were that obvious. |

If you move an A player down, better have a REALLY good reason, but 99% of the time the player just leaves the club.
And probably they are not that bad, just the 18th player on a good team. so why upset the apple cart. The kid has been playing with his best friends/buddies since U7 so you are destroying that kid's self esteem and social life. |
| daughter's coach met with each player individually in early december and is currently completing a second round of meetings. first meeting appeared to be a simple chat for the coach to chat and learn about the players. second chat my daughter was tasked with pulling game film for them to review and identify things my daughter wants to improve on. the entire process is not an evaluation but more a conversation. i've seen youth coaches orchestrate evaluations and it's an entirely one sided conversation players dread. |
How about the simple fact that those B team kids worked their tails off and have improved enough to be better than some on the A team. Keeping them back has the same effect as demoting the A team kid has. |
Are you talking about your son here? Sounds like your pitch is kind of personal. When we talk about the top 18 kids on a top club, it needs to be the top 18 kids that tryout. Period. You don't look at who are friends with who. You cut who needs to be cut. Sure if it's a just a hair, difference maybe you look at club loyalty, etc. Otherwise, you take the top 18 kids. Only people whose kid is in the bottom thinks like you. |
That's why kid B moves to another club if they decide they want to move to a higher club. It's a business decision as much as anything because a club knows they will lose player A if they move down, but the think they can keep player B without moving them up |

I found the feedback from my son's coach to be appropriate. He identified what my son is good at and what he can improve.
In terms of moving up, I don't think the process is great. In my view, you need to be a better player to move up from C to B team etc. than you would have needed to be to just stay on B team in the first place. But, that is understandable, as families will freak out if kids move down. On the A team of good clubs, they don't particularly give a crap, because there are tons of people vying for and happy to take that spot. Otherwise, they are unlikely to do it. |
clubs know that not everyone who tries out will move clubs and they know that it will take an a team offer to get a kid to move from try out to paying club member. If an outsider is slightly worse than a B team player, I think they still edge out that B team player for the offer. Anecdotally, I think the order for A team offers, all else being equal is current A team players, outside the club players, and then B team players |
Totally disagree with this . Ive been in this situation before and here's some advice for the B Team player. Go to the A team coach tell him your want to be on that team tell them your going to leave if not. If your player is better than the A team They will make the promotion as a guaranteed sale and hope the A team player sticks around. But most coaches will choose the top 18 if pushed by the family and the player is good enough to be in the top 18 regardless of how long the A team has been together. |
This. And it's right and fair. If the B kid is better than the A kid, what would you do as a coach if presented with this ultimatum? I'm cutting the A kid. I don't care about friendships and I already know the B kid was in the system and that sort of thing. A kid is gone...even if he gives me the same ultimatum. I'm taking the better kid. |
DD has been in this situation. We had her tell their coach they had to miss practice to for tryouts (which was true). A team coach emailed that night and invited her practice and play with the A team the following week and promoted her after the game. The point is that she shouldn't have had to push the issue |

What does Loudoun do for their 7th and 8th tier teams?
Evals to keep the customers paying up? |
Probably nothing. Some people just don't want their kids playing rec. |
They’re lucky to be based in this area of the country I guess. Imagine if they donated that money to a homeless shelter or hungry children. |
