Forgot to mention great scholarship and mentoring for aspiring STEM students.
Current Surgeon General was a recipient of the scholarship.

OP, you mentioned Drexel. That was on DD's initial list. We liked it because of their co-op program; looked to be a good path for internships and careers. (Came off her list because she didn't care for the city-feel campus.)

I’ve looked at nothing seriously.
My older child only looked at Ivy League schools.
With this child, high SATs, mediocre GPA in mostly APs. This child needs diversity, DC is half AA. Most elite schools not an option because of GPA requirements.
What about Drexel?

Your child is a junior now? Grades on an upward trajectory? Is the GPA at least about a 3.5w?

Kid is not getting into UCLA from OOS with mediocre GPA. Also UCLA is heavily Asian and White.

Pitt Could be a great fit. Definitely apply rolling decision by mid August. You can use their app and self report grades and test scores. No common app essay or recommendations needed. You kid should have an answer in 2-3 weeks. Even if he’s only marginally interested, a yes from somewhere takes the stress level down.

August? Wow! I didn't know schools took applications that early.
