What kind of kid birthday parties have your kids been invited to during the pandemic?

Outdoor movie and outdoor “escape room.”

Was the outdoor escape room done by a professional? Please share details. My DS had to cancel his indoor escape room party last March.

Most gave up the pandemic birthday parties this fall. I was surprised but my 5 yr old was fine without having a party.

How does a virtual mygym party work, since the whole point is playing on the equipment?

OP here. I wonder if my gym would do a backyard party.

We’re in Los Angeles and our numbers are very high. Even our playgrounds are closed and gated.

Playgrounds are closed? That’s terrible.

We were invited to a large birthday pool party with entertainers over the summer. We declined.

We hosted one masked backyard birthday party with 2 friends. That's the only type of party I would be comfortable with my kids attending.

- online roblox parties last spring
- come by for a cupcake last spring
- car parade last spring
- Outdoor birthday parties- just normal - pizza, kids playing, cake kind of thing in the summer/fall
- laser tag parties in the summer
- outdoor movie night parties in the summer and fall

Nothing since numbers started rising. I think everyone is zoomed out. I would not do a zoom party at this point.

Maybe consider waiting until numbers come down a bit.

1) Zoom with magician
2) Zoom with crafts
3) Zoom open house, which was brief

All of those had something dropped off beforehand-- magic stuff, craft kit, cupcake

1) In-person with literally the birthday kid and 2 total guests, doing crafts outdoors (summer), no food

I think that's it? I don't think we've even been invited to any birthday parties that were more elaborate or with more guests *in person*. People around us are pretty conservative when it comes to COVID.

Oh, this is me and I'll add that my kid's birthday is coming up again (hers was a regular, big house party in 2020 because it was in February). This year, she wants 4 friends to come over and do some outside masked activities, no food/mask removal. I think we might do that.

FWIW, right now we would decline:

-Anything indoors at all
-Outdoors but only IF it seemed food-heavy, full of a million guests or I knew the family was iffy on mask-wearing and precautions (doesn't apply a lot to our kid's friends' families)

We would accept most outdoor and any virtual invitations.

It doesn't matter, because I send my kids' regrets to every one.

Son just went to an indoor party - just 2 friends invited. I was fine with it since it was just 3 kids that play together a lot outside anyway.
Indoor gymnastics / ninja parkour party. Kids wore masks entire time. This was in the fall before the numbers went up.
Outdoor party over the summer.

No, it’s necessary. NP here and our cases of infection and death are astronomical. They’ve closed any place where people might gather even some of our non-playground parks.

It’s really bad here.

Would you attend a backyard or playground party in the cold?

Np, but yes if it was small and ppl were wearing masks. We've gone to a bunch of these this winter.

DP.

I’ve thrown 3 small outdoor Bday parties:
August - allowed to invite 3 friends (outdoors)
December - allowed to invite 4 friends (outdoors & masks)
January - allowed to invite 5 friends (outdoors & masks)

In every invite I said - I know it’s a weird time, no pressure to attend - but I have had 100% attendance at all 3. In my group I think people are looking for lower risk ways to get kids together outdoors.

Now I’m done hosting bdays til next August

May I ask what you did at your small outdoor parties? I am especially curious at your January party.

I have a child with a birthday party in 3 weeks. I am watching the weather and hoping to have a very small outdoor party.

Our neighbor just had a fire pit with s’mores party, with masks outside only. Only the kids from our block were invited, I think it was a last minute thing.
