Do you think there will be any in-person learning this spring?

Add to that tens of millions of vaccinated people (close to 100 million by the end of February), no one will be able to keep schools closed. We just need to go through a few more tough weeks. Hang in there.

Numbers are going up, not down. Its not going to lose power except if people stay home and stop all the creative social contact.

I did not say the numbers are going down now (well, strictly speaking it actually went down for the past week or so, but that's not my point). My point is, with the arrival of spring and significant number of vaccinations, our numbers will go down significantly. It does not take a genius to see that. Look at historical coronavirus statistics in northern and southern hemisphere as a function of time of the year.

There will be some vaccinations but none for kids. The only way to get numbers down is to stay home and that is not happening. We will have more surges with Christmas and New Years.

As long as you are vaccinated, you are 95% protected. Kids' vaccination is not important unless the kid herself is a high risk individual.

Kids spread the virus. Are you just picking what you want to meet your needs?

Did I say anything about kids spreading or not spreading? You have problem understanding scientific process. Pfizer and Moderna clinical trials are performed in real world. They both conclude that if you are vaccinated, you are 95% protected from getting infected and almost 100% protected from developing serious illness IN THE PRESENCE of SPREADING PEOPLE, KIDS or NOT.

What is PAGES?

A private Facebook group by radical leftists that are now devoting their attention to keeping schools indefinitely.

You have to watch the full meeting but they are basically planning to 12/21 rather than planning to 8/21. And...if fall of next year will be challenging at all and sub 18s are not vaccinated, planning till 12/21 is really planning til not even 21-22....The writing is on the wall. I don’t understand this progressive case towards just ...no education for kids. For almost 2 years, or hey maybe more! Glad the teachers got what they wanted - but couldn’t we have spread out all the K-2s in different buildings or something? No... we just did nothing. And if you want the meetings it is clear we will continue to do NOTHING. Antonia and Jolene are also teacher union buddies. We.just.won’t.do.anything.

I’m guessing we’ll be back after spring break.

If we don't have a vaccine and you can get COVID repeatedly in person is not safe.

This is exactly what I mean. There are a large number of teachers that have no understanding of risk or science that are fighting reopening. They're doing it now, and they're going to keep doing it in the fall unless parents push pressure on the BoE and other political leaders.

What are you rambling about? A select group of selfish parents like you are demanding we open. As a parent, I think they are doing the right thing. You risk your safety by going to work in a school if you are demanding others to do it. We don't have vaccines for kids and its not just teachers safety we need to work about but the students and families as well.

Anyone who thinks schools should open in 2021 needs to take a good hard look at the PP's post. This is what we're up against. Kids have been going to school throughout the pandemic in other states and countries. People have been going to work, providing critical services to keep society functioning.

Yes MCPS teachers think they're special. That they're uniquely at-risk compared to other workers, like health care providers. And while they might be arguing that educational isn't essential right now, you they're going to say otherwise when they're salaries are being negotiated.

Keep this post in mind every time you vote for BoE member, remembering they're supposed to be representing you and your kids, not MCEA.

So, what will happen if we go back and kids are not vaccinated? I understand the problem and until it’s under control DL is our only safe option.

Stop blaming the teachers. They have no say. As a parent mine will not go back. We are not under a lockdown and people are behaving irresponsibly and spreading it. Teacher may get the vaccine but that leaves the students and families at risk. You may be ok with it but many of us are not. .

Who is trying to force you to send your kids back into school? People are asking for the option to return.

I am sending my kid to school in person right away if they have that option. My 5 year old needs in person education, not virtual learning looking at screen for hours. If the school is not opened in the fall 2021 for young kids , I would be really speechless. March 2020 to August 2021 will be almost 1.5 years of in person education loss.
