Doordash - why do they do multiple deliveries?

My food is going to be frigid and disgusting, I ordered EGGS, what a ficking asshole. Why do they do this? Is there any way to make it so they won't????

You can make it so they won’t by picking up your own food or paying the restaurants directly

Did you just call a gig worker an asshole for doing his/her job? When you order, they tell you how long it is going to take. Spoiler alert: a large portion of that time is delivery, not prep. Don't order food you can't easily re-heat. Also, go find some morals and perspective.

You don't know what you're talking about. 99% of the time, the amount of time they tell you it is going to take is wrong (like they say 25-35 minutes and it takes over an hour). The DASHER decides if they're going to pick up multiple orders, it's not assigned to them.

I don’t think this is true. I have delivered for these services and yes, multiple orders are sometimes assigned. With that being said, it is usually 2 orders max. It doesn’t make sense that the person went to 3 different places. That wouldn’t be an assignment. Maybe OP’s driver was “multi-apping” on his own.

I hate Doordash. Ordered sushi from Seamless (which I think is actually a subsidiary of Doordash) last night. I was starving after a busy work day where I didn’t have time to eat much, so a big order. Guy dropped off pizza from a different restaurant. Texted and called him right away, no response. I was refunded, but the bad service (and idea that my sushi was misdelivered to someone else) is annoying.

It's best just to order from the restaurant and pick up, and cut out the middle man. It's not surprising the the delivery person has other orders.

I answered the phone for a pizza delivery place decades ago and obviously drivers always took multiple orders. I believe this is how it's always been, otherwise it's not worth it to the driver or restaurant. It's not some new doordash thing. It's literally the model for all delivery

We stopped using any kind of food delivery after uber eats picked up our food a few miles from my house, drove near our house, then Drove into D.C., then back to Arlington and stopped for somewhere for about ten minutes. Every few minute , the estimated time would increase. I get they can make more money by doing multiple stops, but the amount of time our food road around in this woman’s car was too much. And it was no where near the estimated time.

By the time we got our food it was inedible. This was pre-covid, but the experience was bad enough I will not consider delivery even during the pandemic. I just go and pick up now.

We order from these types of services ALOT during COVID. Sure, I could order directly from an pick up, but I am willing to pay for the convenience.

What I have learned is that UberEats is consistently better than Door Dash in terms of reliability and timeliness, and the app is better. I choose that whenever possible.

The drivers often do something called multi apping. They sign on as drivers on Grubhub, DoorDash, Postmates etc at the same time. They do this to maximize their pay obviously. You can tell they are multiapping because they make different stops along the way while the app says they are on the way to you. If the app says "making a few stops on the way to you" that is different. I use UberEats because it is harder for drivers to multi app.

OP have you ever worked as a delivery person?

We used to have good luck with Doordash. Lately the orders have been cold and twice now they have delivered our food to our neighbors. We'd get the "your food has been delivered" text along with a pic of our food on our neighbor's porch. We ran over and grabbed the food both times but it's annoying.

I feel your pain, OP. We stopped using food delivery services after watching our dinner be driven round the county once too often.

OP is right...and those "gig workers" are assholes if they accept my order and drive it around town long enough for it to be cold. I payed a premium as it is through DoorDash as it is, plus the tip that is always more than the suggested amount. I expect them to get my damn food when they accept my order. Should have let someone else take the order then. Asshole of a dasher.

To the "Make the eggs yourself guy"...They should get a better job then bud. Nice logic right? Because it's yours.

Uber has an option now where you can pay extra for more direct and quicker delivery. Maybe try that next time.

I hope she’s not still waiting on those eggs.

TIP people, you have to tip and tip big! That's the only I've been able to get my food hot and quick through any of the delivery services.

Breakfast is always an issue because there are not many Dashers working those hours.

Totals and tips also suck for breakfast

OP here, I always tip well. For the asshole who was like "you don't know how to cook eggs??". Obviously I do, but I haven't been to the grocery in a few weeks and don't have everything I need to make shakshouka, Do you?

This is a very first world problem. You need to get some perspective. My goodness. This is your biggest problem??
