Landon Admissions

While it's not our first choice, we think it's a long shot as well -- no connections, few slots. Good luck to your son.

Applications were way up this year. Letters go out Monday.

Really? How many applications were received?

Think the Landon Admissions Staff is on this thread.

Landon competes with Georgetown Prep for kids and Prep notifies earlier. It seems to me that most everyone gets into Landon who applies.

On a individual selectivity basis, Landon is not as demanding or selective as Georgetown Prep. However, the absolute numbers are significantly different. This is because Landon starts prior to 9th grade and GP only begins then. Specfically, Landon this year is only accepting 15 incoming new applicant freshman. Prep is taking about 125 (an increase from 110 of previous years because of facility expansion in January).

How selective is Landon relative to StA at the lower grades?

7:01, we're applying for lower school -4th grade. We got a group email and the number of other parents applying was LONG. So I'm sure they have many apps for a few spots. Oh well, loved the school, maybe we'll get lucky.

We were on that list applied for 4th as well It wasn't exclusively a list of applicants, and wasn't exclusively a list of 4th grade applicants. I believe it was a list of people who had inquired, attended an open house or attended an info session for the lower school. We had friends on the list who had younger children not eligible to apply and who were just looking. We had friends on the list who attended one of these sessions and decided not to apply. I wouldn't extrapolate the number of applicants from that list.

That is good to know. Any idea how many are applying to 4th grade?

Was anyone's DC admitted to Landon, and you're choosing another option? If so, what most influenced your decision?

DS has been admitted to Landon as well as other 3 of the top 5. He is excited and we too. Most likely will accept Landon --- the combination of top academics and strong athletics & music/arts, all in a beautiful campus and with remarkable teachers and admissson staff, is just irresistable

The only thing we do not know is the community - type of parents/families there. Any experience?

We too were accepted at Landon, as well as three other schools. We likely will not enroll at Landon. It is nothing to do with Landon itself. We believe it is an excellent school overall. You will see a fair amount of negative press on this and other threads regarding the school. With its past and its male dominated environment, it is a place that is often deemed contraversial. I have done alot of homework here. Frankly, and I know there is a set of people that are going to sneer at this, I believe some of that negativity comes from jealousy and resentment toward athletic. alpha boys.

We are not attending Landon simply because we have a preferred top choice. We would be very happy to have our son attend there. This is one of those schools that you really need to assess if your kid would fit into the culture there. It is not for the faint hearted. However, if there is a match, it is unsurpassed in leadership development and growing your son into being able to flourish in the real world.

I have noticed your point that Landon "is not for the faint hearted" and would really like to understand it. Can you please give an example or explain?

Thanks.
